It was my throw around test scope for new rifles for awhile and actually mostly survived on a scar 17 for a decent bit… mostly.
It’s a fun rifle but not my most capable. Recently bought a different optic for it and deciding how I want to change its build. Thinking barrel chop with a pin and weld, rejetting to be more friendly with an RC2 on the end, and a new rail extension (liking the Midwest currently but have bounced between that, KDG, and PMM every other week so who knows where I’ll land). Already has a Geissele trigger and some other controls upgrades. Still gotta find a scope mount for the new glass too. I spend way too long building multiple guns and not ever actually finishing one
The older you get, the worse your vision will be Red dot with magnifier is cool.if you're clearing rooms with the swat team I've had both. Save your money and get a scope
LPVO is a great option for a "do it all" type deal. You pay the price in weight vs other options though. Budget is HUGE when talking LPVO though. After owning a strike eagle, I'd personally spend the extra to move to the Viper PST 2. They can be had for 500 easy, often with a mount. The viper is easily 3 or 4x the scope the strike eagle is. After doing all different types of optics for all different types of reasons, my last build was very purposely built from start to finish. It's a "lightweight" AR10 battle rifle. Sig Romeo 4XT Pro red dot with a 3x magnifier. It's a multi dot red dot. I have it zeroed for the main dot at 100y behind the magnifier and the bottom dot is up close for 10-15yards. The same mid and bottom dots should equal around 4-600y but haven't tried that. It's not anything I plan to shoot past 200+, it wasn't built for that purpose though I'm sure it's plenty capable. If I have to grab any one rifle, that will be it.
12% off site wide at Primary Arms email this morning FYI. And I’ll also say the vortex strike eagles are great inexpensive scopes……1-6 & 1-8 on 2 different species……and they’ve held up great for woodland duties getting knocked around etc
https://palmettostatearmory.com/sig...lpha-cantilever-msr-mount-black-sot61000.html I'm really happy with the performance from this LPVO from Sig on an AR. Currently $279 from PSA and works just as good if not better than some $500 optics.
I bought a Sig Sauer Tango 6 a couple years ago. I'm super happy with it for a carbine optic. I also have an Eotech XPS and a Vortex red dot. These days only thing I'm interested in for a carbine is an LPVO. Tech has come so far nothing else makes any sense. I'll eventually get around to selling the Eotech and replace it with another LPVO.
Before you sell the eotech, try the red dot with a magnifier if you havent already. Not saying LPVO isn’t the way - it’s what I run on my primary rifle. But magnified red dots definitely have their place/application.
For sure. But the flip to side can be quite handy to switching between near and far targets. Much faster than dialing an LPVO. Offset dots accomplish the same but have their own trade offs. To each their own and all that. But I think they still have their place, depending on shooter's preference.
