Pit Bikes - Best Year for Zuma

Upgrading the pitbike and Zuma seems like the best option.

    1. Is there a "best" year or otherwise one that seems to bear the least amount of issues?
    2. 50cc or 125cc

02-05 (I think). Ideally, you want the tw0-stroke 50 because it's lighter and smaller, but head and shoulders faster/torquier than the four-stroke. If somebody leaves it on all night and kills the battery, you can kick start it (or just never put a battery in it in the first place). Parts are cheap, it auto-mixed the oil/gas, and it is very, very hard to kill.

Bonus points if it has a 70cc big bore kit from Athena or Polini and a stock exhaust - best combo for power and stealth

The 125 four-stroke is better if you need to go 50+ mph or don't like the smell of two-stroke. Having spent time on both, I greatly preferred the 50 two stroke.

I’m looking for a 50cc now. The diesel is okay if you’re looking for utilitarian and are okay with “average” but the 50 has some soul to it.
There’s a 50cc with a 70cc kit in it for sale in the classifieds that would be a great starting point for a awesome project.
Trying to find someone else to buy it before I figure out a way to go get it. :D

Edit: @sowega just saw he posted before me and the zuma I was talking about is his. :)

I have one that's going up for sale, 50cc two stroke bug eye, black in perfect condition with a pipe. Pretty darn quick! It's in socal, behind on registration because I haven't used it in years. Runs perfect

I have both. They each have their unique advantages, preferred 'use-for' purpose, and time and place in my fleet of various small bikes. 50 is much easier to pack into a tight space in a trailer; 125 is F.I. so less concerns about fuel, etc...

I have a 2008 125 and it is bulletproof besides the battery. If its not on tender it will need to be charged before the weekend. But dang that just starts and goes. The kids have dumped it like 3 times while camping and around the pits but still works great.

Yes, they both pass the 'crash-test' well. Most of the weight is low, and they roll to their sides quite smoothly to slide.

I have a surplus of Zumas (all 2 stroke, of course). If encouraged, I can prep a few for resale. Located in GA.

I actually have more than what is pictured here.

I need to get my Zuma's up and running so I can sell them. I have one 2 stroke 50, two 4 stroke 50's and a 125.

The only real weak point on the 50 is the carburetor getting gunked up from nonuse. A replacement is like $20-30 on Amazon (just make sure you switch over your main jet if you're not stock), and you can swap it out in 20 minutes.

My 2-T Zuma runs great on race fuel, and once sat for over four years. Started right up.

I started thinking about the smell of race gas and 2T oil, and I'm going to have to call a doctor if this feeling lasts for more than four hours.

You can approximate the "race high" by taking a grand or so out of the ATM, driving home and then throwing it straight in the garbage. Much quicker.
