I may be traveling through the OWB soon. Is there anything like a NH memorial in the city? If so, I'll stop and take a look. Any restaurant suggestions for a lunchtime meal? TIA.
I like to stay at the holiday inn next to the convention center as it's in the water and the restaurant is good there too. If you want to see the NH memorial it's on the southeast side of the Owensboro convention center. Every once in a while I'll walk past it and see that people have left gifts for Nicky which really pulls the heart strings. It's an extremely walkable town. Last time I was there I just walked through the city center and enjoyed whatever came my way. The bluegrass hall of fame is surprisingly cool too. If you're looking for food I like to go to Brew Bridge for the tap selection but I haven't found anywhere I don't like yet.

My son was there last month for hockey. This is famous old dive joint if you're looking for a simple burger meal. https://visitowensboro.com/listing/wyndalls-wonder-whip/
Whatever the locals tell you, don't go to the Moonlight BBQ place. When we lived close to OWB, people raved about it. It's OK at best. There's a place downtown called The Lure. I highly suggest it. https://www.lureowensboro.com/
Sounds like Moonlite must have gone downhill since I lived in the area. (Ex)wife and I loved going there. There was a pretty cool theme going with the Moonlite Barbecue, next door was the Big Dipper ice cream parlor and the Starlight drive-in for a movie. This would have been about 40 years ago though. Things change.
It hasn't really changed and the menu is still the same as it always was. I may be the outlier but I was never really impressed by it for as much of a culinary institution the locals deem it to be. The banana pudding was pretty top notch though. I'm not much of a BBQ person let alone dry mutton.
Yeah I can see why you wouldn't be impressed with it if you're not a fan of Barbecue. I'm not the biggest fan of it myself but Moonlite appealed to my admittedly unsophisticated palette back in the day.
I don't know if it's changed, but the locals I knew used to recommend Old Hickory for the best BBQ, moonlite was where you went if you wanted a buffet and the banana pudding.
