I got my set of optimal racing mounted on my 07 gsxr 1000. I've never messed with race body work but how should this stuff fit together? The issue is the upper and lower. One side looks good but then I've got to tug and pull and push to get the other side to sorta line up for the dzus. I haven't mounted the ram air tubes but just looking at it it seems to be way off. Has anybody ever used this brand on this model of bike? Maybe this is just the pitfall of cheapo body work?
I haven't had any experience with Optimal bodywork but most of the time, you get what you pay for. Good luck.
Not familiar with the 1000 model but Optimal fitment for the 06/07 600 was pretty good as long as your not running the stock exhaust, and most of the pre-marked holes were spot on for drilling minus the tail. Generally speaking, I match up the upper and lower while they're off of the bike. Drill your holes and install your fasteners b/c those two have to fit together regardless. Then I remove the lower, fit the upper to the fairing stay, reinstall the lower, and work from there. Measure things twice, drill once. They've also got a website now and a tech line if you need more help. It probably won't fit as perfect as oem plastics, but their stuff should fit fairly well. If you need to work with it more than a little bit, I'd give them a call.
I just sent you a pm. I have found that there is a technique to mounting this stuff. It seems that if you keep messing with it you will find the right position and bam, it will look right. Mount the ram air tubes. It will help position it correctly and make it easier to find a good position again. I used most of the dimples and they worked very well. completely mount the upper then mark and drill for the dzus. Then mark the last lower mounting hole or holes.
How well does fiberglass hold up to multiple holes in it ? Thanks for all the help, I will keep swearing at it.
just relax and be patient. you can't expect race glass to fit perfect. you're always gonna have to finagle it a bit.
