So his ability to regain control is about timing. When he's alone, no big deal. When he's inside of someone's line, on a damp track, at a completely different speed and angle, that shouldn't be the time to experiment with gravity or physics. It was a bad decision with an unfortunate outcome. But the penalty was appropriate as it was cumulative at the point of the Rossi incident.

That's the thing, though: he's not experimenting. Well, he does, in practice. On Sunday, it's controlled chaos. :D

So it is about timing. Three feet earlier or later, we would have seen that "shoulder save" from a few years ago. This time it ended with Rossi's front brake lever full of sod. And an internet full of experts.

I was waiting on that last one. People on the MotoGP subreddit apparently don't appreciate the Sepang incident the same way some of the rest of us do.

Marquez crashed 27 times last year. He reminds me of James Stewart in SX. Blindingly fast, but... it comes at a price. The fact he crashes so much and still wins titles says several things.

Dovi was smart and anticipated what was coming. If he tried to defend there would have been contact. Pretty sure he gave Marc a "WTF?" hand signal, but no he doesn't go into histrionics like Rossi does. Everyone has a red limiter, however.

All these same pictures of Rossi screwing up occasionally over the years makes zero points. The difference between screw-up and screwed-up is a matter of degree. MM hit more people this weekend than most in MotoGP have over entire seasons.

The worlds greatest and most accomplished riders are calling MM a problem. MANY of them. Sugar coating this with "back in the day" anecdotes and NASCAR tough guy references doesn't change the facts.

I was wondering when, the first or the 5th time in a 5 lap race?

And pretty consistently every other competitor on the grid. I know he hasn't won every championship since he came in, but he easily could have without a couple mistakes by him or his team (Phillip Island), comes to mind.

Granted he rode a bit out of control, but performance wise, he is head and shoulders above everyone else.

    You're correct.

When Rossi does it he's a hard charger with the will to win and is praised. When it is done against Rossi they are reckless and a danger to the field.

So, you're saying that before this weekend, Rossi was the bigger danger because he'd had more incidents like this in his MotoGP career than Marquez? :D

Ha!!! Can you imagine the outrage if they instantly DQ'd him.

The funny thing is, I agree that Marquez was riding over top. I get why he was doing it (he was trying to salvage as many points as possible), but I don't agree with just how aggressive he was in some of his passes. What amazes me, is that when (insert favorite rider here) does it, it's hard riding and it's just what the series needs. I'm not going to lie, I laughed when Rossi crashed, because I knew a metric fuck ton of people's heads exploded in rage. While I did feel bad that Rossi's race was ruined, that bad feeling went away when he acted like a bitch in the pits.

  16. Look at the shape of the corner, and the line that every rider had taken through that corner the entire weekend.

They all ran it in deep, hugging tight at the first part, then drifting out a few feet (to square it off), then they hit their slowest speed, then stood the bike up and fired it out.

They basicallly made a “V” out of the corner to maximize throttle time, the way those bikes always have to be ridden.

Rossi doing that wasn’t “opening the door”, he was taking the right line, same line everyone takes. MM dove in right where Rossi would be cutting in, and he did so at a speed and angle that would have been impossible for him to complete, without using a berm.

But even all of that would have been ok, if he would have been about 3’ further up. It would have been kinda shitty, but it would have been a successful block pass (it would have been the same thing Zarco did on Dani).

But he wasn’t. He came from behind and used Rossi as a berm.

Maybe Marquez just doesn't know how to go slow? Maybe if he goes slow the bike does weird things, like go slow, and not win races

So he did the same thing Rossi did to Sete, but Rossi was the hero in that incident. Got it.

I agree, it looks like Rossi had the door open larger than Pedrossa, is that what you mean?

When that accident happened, I distinctly remember calling Rossi a douche. This time, he's on the receiving end of that douchiness, that's all.
