That was the rear spoiler that got knocked around to the front. Many of the "aero" parts of the helmets are designed to break away so in a crash they don't catch on anything and torque the helmet.
No, it was the wrap from the chinbar... you can clearly see the black graphics that were originally on the helmet that were wrapped over.
The image here would show otherwise. That black is part of his graphic, looks like the spoiler is flipped over and barely hanging on there. https://www.iconsport.photo/tl/imag...-motoamerica-superbike-practice-1-jul-12.html
here is a photo of the last version of the helmet (Pista GP R, current version is the Pista GP RR with a bigger/slightly different rear spoiler). you can see the white mount on the side. on the newer version that is further forward so the rear spoiler could break off and pivot over the top and flop around in the front like Fongs photo. I've never seen that happen but that is my guess as to what happened in this case. usually it just breaks off when impacted.
I watched the 2nd SuperBike race on YouTube last night... Herrin defending on the last lap was pure class. (I can't believe I just used "Class" and "Herrin" in the same sentence!) -T
Really curious to see how the attendance numbers go for this round as its usually a heavy hitter. Attendance has been spotty and its seemingly rained all year, hoping for some good news.
