I was noticing that PJ was about 3 secs off the top SBK times on his supersport bike. How much faster would the V2 be if it was built to full SBK specs? How about the GSXR 750? It was also only about 3 secs off the SBK GSXR.
At a track like Laguna, I think the only places where a SBKs would gain big time over a built NG bike would be the run up the hill (got torque?) and the main straight. The Pani V2 is almost a 1000cc and wouldn't be far behind the Superbikes going up the hill. The MVs would be a closer too. It would be interesting to see the data from the Attack bikes to see how little of the lap they are at 100% throttle at a place like Laguna.
Do you think that was from running a different brand of tires for club racing and switching to MA tires for this event?
He’s had some time on them. Not saying that more time would have been better. The Dunlops do have a characteristic or two that the Pirellis don’t. We had the wrong ramp in the clutch on Friday and had a lot of wheel hop on decel. We were a bit too aggressive. Then it was just suspension set up miscues.
That was my thinking, too. They are restricted to less than stock so there are some of the 3 seconds and then using the allowed upgrades for SBK could get them some more of the 3 seconds. That could make a big difference for the "big" guys like Alexander and Lewis. I also wonder what SBK built MV, Triumph 765 and Yamaha R9 would be like against the 1000's? At this point, could more manageable HP along with handling make the smaller bikes competitive? How about JH4 on an R9?
