Thought for the day. When you hear these numbers every day… To put these numbers in prospective. 1 Million seconds = 12 Days 1 Billion Seconds = 31 years 1 Trillion Seconds = 31,688 years
1 trillion seconds is only one 14200th the age of the earth. 1 trillion cells is one 50th of all the cells in the human body 1 trillion stars is only one trillionth of all the stars in the universe.
Thanks ever so much. I get it now. The OP is implying that a trillion dollars is a significant amount. EB is implying it isn't. I'll go with the OP on this point.
"You can have $1B in $1 notes if you can count it out by hand - All or nothing: do you want the $1B or not?" Here's an offer for you......I bet most people would jump at it (if you pulled 40 hour weeks counting 8 hours a working day at $1 per second this would take 130 years)
Would you get to take home everything you counted each day? That'd be pretty sweet. $1 per second for eight hours per day = $60 per minute, $3600 per hour, $28,800 per day. I could live with that job.
In cosmic terms a trillion is nothing. If the OP was trying to say that a trillion dollars is a lot of money, he should have said so. It is 1/13 of our GNP and 1/30 or the worlds GNP. So what?
Most of the folks with e-mail have already connected it with the hundred or so fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd: emails with those stats in `em.
True, but for most of us numbers that big are still meaningless. I think it would be very hard to comprehend a million of anything, let alone a billion or trillion. Even trying to comprehend all three hundred million or so (is that close?) Americans would be impossible but the frequent use of "billion" and "trillion" in the news has desensitized us to how staggering those numbers really are. But yah... most of the smart kids already figured that out.
