I had friends that lived in yacht cove when growing up. Our bonus sister has a place there now. It’s not as crazy as you think. The methy areas will be in the Lexington side. Farther down 378.
North east Alabama is a beautiful place and not filled with a fuck ton of people (yet) like the three you mentioned. They have some pretty lake properties up there too. For the love of gawd don't move to GA. We got enough traffic here as is.
Looks like there are some iffy spots on Lake Marion, but no different then here. Biggest issue in Indiana is the second a lot pops up lakeside, it gets a $1MM house put on it then everyone else around thinks their property is now worth the same thing.
I'm not familiar with anything other than western NC. It's 5.5 hrs. from my place to any coast, so it is more of a mountain playground. There's a lot more to do here with the out of door amenities versus anywhere to the east or south. It depends on what you are into and how much money you have to throw at a place. I'd go nuts living in the flat, pine lands with nothing to do but shop and deal with traffic. You said airport too. I suppose that if you need close proximity to any airport, your sort of stuck with less than ideal choices. I live near Last of the Mohicans' lake. It's pretty nice and has some nice price tags too.
Appalachia is beautiful and holds a great place in my heart as my dad's side of the family is from Hazard, KY. I spent quite a bit of time there throughout my career. For me however, I'd rather be much closer to the coast.
I live in Columbia, after moving to Greenville, I originally came from Central PA. We liked the location of Greenville in terms of location to the Western NC Mtns, but we didn't care for the "people" or the manufactured culture, we also never quite felt like we fit in. We settled into the Columbia area right off Lake Murray, It's HOT, like a different type of HOT. There does seem to be a more established culture in the area, but nothing compared to the North East. We love being so close to CMP and we also have a great flat track community. Charleston has changed a lot even since I have been in the South (7 years). Sort of like Greenville or maybe Nashville?, where the new culture or way of life is very manufactured, which is sad since it has so much history and used to be a fairly easy-going place. I will also say depending on your way of life financially, comparing the cost of living. Greenville was something like 20% higher than PA without the pay Increase. Some things were a lot cheaper but when calculating the differences with taxes and insurance most of the online COL calculators don't include. With all that, if I were to move again I would move closer to the coast, or even consider a smaller town like Camden
I just found out last year about 500 acres of Cody Family land that’s still there in Perry county… all around hazard… was thousands… that’s where my kin went after leaving the Rez and heading north… I spent lots of time there between Vico and Viper at the home place as a kid too… small world…. No wonder you’re alright… just another transplanted hillbilly
Check out Gainesville, GA. Its on the largest lake in ga. Deep water. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Lanier. 30.minuites from.the Blueridge mountains with great hiking , camping, and amazing.twisties. 20 minutes from Road Atlanta. Botanical gardens. 4 actual seasons and reasonable taxes. Only a few hours from the beach. 75 mils to Tail of the Dragon.
I agree. The area around Woodstock/Canton/Ball Ground is fairly open and could use more people. Look around Lake Allatoona....
Stay away from WNC. Incredible crime rate, shitty places to ride, terrible fishing and hiking opportunities, inhospitable weather.... I could go on but you get the idea.
there you are! Hope all is well on the boundary buddy. You been feeding the new munchies crowds? how’s tourist season?
Quit trying to upsell me. Incredible crime rate - more chances for target practice shitty places to ride, terrible fishing and hiking opportunities, inhospitable weather - more reason to go to And give the injuns some reparation's.
Hey, it's Cherokee Indian Night at The Braves game Saturday night. I'd like to go, but I don't have enough wampum.
It's been busy brother. We're all good. Hope all is well with you and yours. Nah... its honestly a great place to live...just trying to hog all this awesomeness.
Lake Lanier is haunted. Lot's of TV shows documenting it; look them up! You don't want to move there.
NW GA to SW SC if I could. Far enough away from hurricanes. Have to be far enough away from Atlanta to miss that shithole. I'm 5 minutes to beach on a creek that leads to intracoastal here in Jax. Heat is stifling because of the fact it's so humid. Bugs eat you alive if the wind is not blowing. Homeless overun the intersections. Local government never met a tax or spending project it didn't like. Business is too established to move to we have a perimeter of about 50 miles we need to stay in. We're looking at downsizing and buying a toy hauler RV to do trips between jobs when we're not in a theme park. Nashville area suburban property was beautiful but gentrification has ruined a lot of it.
I used to enjoy Nashville. When we raced there it was always a good trip. Now I have grown to hate it primarily because the traffic is worse the Atlanta.
Back in the early 2000's when my son was playing travel hockey we were in a division with Nashville teams, we had to travel there at least 6-8 times a season. I went through recently and I swear they're still working on the same roads They never finish, it just goes back to the beginning and they start all over.
