can you explain how the alignment tool works for me? i am very interested but if i were to get it in the mail today i honestly would have no idea how to use them...and whats the need for drilling into your axle? thanks in advance!
Guys!!! Holy cow!!! I said: "if you can slip a 5/16" drill bit (I figured everyone has access to a drill bit) into your axle/swing arm pivot then these tools will work for you. I didn't say that you have to drill your axle!!!" How did this get twisted around? On a few makes you might have to remove a tiny amount of material from the inside of one end of the axel but these tools work on almost every modern sport bike with hollow axles without any modification. Not to mention these tools come with instructions. The instructions are so simple, even a road racer can use them. This said, they will not work on bikes that have solid axles! Sorry, No, we will not drill out your solid axle so the tools will work. Please. please guys, this ain't rocket surgery
you slide the rods into your swingarm pivot and axle. Tighten the cones down. Now you have 2 straight edges on which you can use a tape measure to make sure each side is perfectly aligned with the other.
Like Grandpaw says, "it ain't Rocket Surgery". It is so simple and it's easier to use than anything else on the market and way more accurate!
Jimmy Chance is my HERO ! What a great alignment tool I thought I had a pretty good "eye" but found I was getting sprocket wear on the inside. Bought Jimmy's tool & sure enough I was 1/8" off So - Thanks Jimmy !! Your tool works great & saved me a $70 alloy sprocket & excess chain wear. ________________________________________ Here's a couple pics of how it works the rods go thru the hollow axle & the hollow swing arm bolt. Make sure the cones are tight against the axle & bolt. You don't want any slop in the rod when measuring. Most rear axles are hollow but if yours has a bolt on one side that threads into your hollow axle, you would have to drill a hole in the bolt for the alignment tool's rod to go thru If you have a solid axle this tool won't work (does any bike use solid axles any more?) Make sure you use 2 wrenches to lock the axle adjuster down - otherwise it can move when you tighten the lock nut. Hold the adjuster still with one wrench while tightening the lock nut with the other wrench.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I rode my Goldwing to the North Carolina Mountains this weekend. Funny, I was on a motorcycle and you were in a cage???? Sucks for you.
How long are the rods on the wheel tool? Just trying to figure out if they would fit in toolbox, parts bin, etc... Thx
+1 on the alignment tool and the lightened rear rotor. Now all I need are some 10mm spacers for my '04 GSXR calipers. Are you still making those?
