Sean, a CVT is just what you said. The problem is that there is no "feeling" to them. They try and fake it in some cars by making it feel like it's shifting but it feels artificial and crappy. Really, if you don't care about driving or the "feel" of a car a CVT is fine.
The flappy paddles will cause the CVT to 'step' between 'gears' rather than seamlessly changing effective ratios between the two pulleys. So it 'feels' like you're 'shifting'.
If I'm in an auto I'd rather not feel it shift anyway so it wouldn't really matter to me. The paddles are just stupid unless they'll actually change the ratio you're using at that specific time.
Man, why not lease an A4 tin top and enjoy the car? Or just join the cult of BMW with a 3 series? Oh, oh, oh! 3 series wagon!!!
She's in pure cheap mode and nothing will change that for the next set of wheels. OTD price of 17,800 trading in the Q5. Not bad for a rental car.
She's a friend sure but wife trumps friend They were a little lower than I thought on the trade value however it did get some bodywork done so that could be the hit. Less than a grand under the KBB site which is actually closer than normal. Her cars are just amazing tho, full records and spotless.
Please at least make her go over to VW and look at a Jetta at least. The GLI comes with the 2.0 and is under $27K base. Even the 1.8 is good. Plus they'd probably work harder to get he in one with better trade in and easier negotiating. and at 4 ~ 5 years and 7500 miles per year, she'll stay in warranty and not have to fear the VW (false or real) reputation.
Agreed, she should go look and drive - the Jetta and the GTI which is still in her general price range. She also needs to hit CarMax for a value on the Q5. At Honda now looking around. Love that she's willing to have them work up a good deal and then walk
Check out the new Mazdas. 3 or 6. Both are getting great reviews. I bought a 6 last August and love it. Allot of car for the money. The interiors now are fantastic and they get great mpg on 87. Mazdas reliability is only beaten by Lexus.
Wow, the Civic SI comes with 205 hp, a manual and a bunch of other crap and is base priced at $23K and change. Throw in nav and some other useless crap that people like it's under $25K. Neat.
