my wife is only 5'0 tall and she ordered her custom suit from Envy racing, took like 3 or 4 weeks to get in. She has done 3 track days in it with no issues.
what compelled that choice vs an off the rack one? The mail order thing seems to be mostly miss with the occasional hit. All the major mfgs have been doing suits for 5 decades...if anything their size charts are accurate.
Sizing charts for women are at best, very hit or miss. Larger than average bust, smaller hips. Small bust, larger hips....and everything in between. One brand of suit that my wife looked at (can't remember which one because we looked at so many), she would bring up the size chart and start at the bust and is was a certain size. Waist size would put her in a different size, and hips would be either back to the first size or a totally different size. So which one of the three should she pick. And being 5'2" or 5'3", the leg length was too long for all three of them not matter which size she chose. The first jacket and pants that she ordered, based on THEIR size chart.....when she got the jacket on and tried to bring the left side to the right side to zip it up, there was a gap of about 3 1/2 to 4 inches between the zipper halves......it was that far off...REALLY! The pants weren't much better....they would not fit over her hips, and again, size was ordered based on THEIR sizing chart.
because even though she could fit in a size 2 suit or whatever the knee pads would be at her ankles and the elbow pads would be at her forearms, she has like a 25” inseam. Women have a lot more variance in build.
For my kid alpinestars fit bad which is weird because you’d think she was their target. Tall, athletic and muscular. She doesn’t ride much but she wears Jamie hacking’s old Joe rocket stuff and it’s like it was made for her. Same stuff For 10 years. . Thanks Brian and Jamie.
I'm shocked anyone manages to mail-order an off-the-rack suit. I'm lucky to have the main Revzilla store about 90 minutes away. It took me 3 suits to find the right fit and that was with a person helping who actually knew his shit consulting with a second guy. Even then, the sleeves are a little short but they're short on just about everything I buy.
My wife had to go custom, and even then, the first custom one didn't fit her well. She's also 5'3" with an ass---set and shorter inseam. She also really struggles with boots. Finding quality women's race boot in a 6 with calf adjustment is tough
We actually figured out the same thing, I have been rocking Sidi st's for years and we were able to find her a pair small enough that work for her, although they are wide.
Sometimes the best option is to buy close enough and get it altered. I have never found a jacket or suit that came close to fitting my somewhat simian build. For that reason I still have Barnical Bill on speed dial. Pretty sure he took enough leather out of my last suit to make a really nice set of gloves, but when he was finished it fit and was very comfortable. In my case I was around 225 lbs and 6'2". Fairly wide shoulders, long arms and torso, and short skinny legs (31" inseam). Basically I looked like Johnny Bravo...
I was simply going to give you props for not being ashamed of your short, skinny legs… I’d prolly best shake your hand while you still have ‘em!
A bit of an update. Today, the Astars Jacket arrived (Stella GP Plus R V3 Airflow Leather Jacket) and it fit her very well. The only small issue is the arms are a bit long, but otherwise it fits great! Next, the Astars Missle V3 pants....hopefully by week's end.
Well, the pants arrived and they are going back. She chose the size that matched her body measurements and the pants are too big this time. This has been a cluster!%$@, but fortunately we do have some time as it's not exactly the peak of riding season here in E. TN. Smaller size coming next week sometime so fingers crossed that the third time will be the charm
F I N A L L Y! The Alpinestars Stella Missle V3 pants arrived today and they fit! So it's been a long struggle but I think we are finally done buying and sending back stuff. Here's the totals, and keep in mind, everything that was ordered was ordered according the the brand's sizing chart and the measurements that my wife took of herself at least three or four times to confirm the numbers. First Jacket.....way too small. Sent back First Pants.....way too small, Sent back Next up was a one piece suit.......too small and sent back Next was another jacket, different brand from the first....That jacket FIT. Then the pants from that same second brand....pants too BIG, and sent back Next size smaller pants arrived today and FIT. So now, after pretty much keeping the shipping companies in business for the last couple of weeks, she finally has a 2 piece suit comprised of an Alpinestars Stella GP Plus R V3 Jacket and an Alpinestars Stella Missle V3 pants .....full circumference zipper to tie them together, perforated leather for the hotter riding days and hopefully a good quality suit.
