….and interestingly they’ve doubled the warranty from 2 years up to 4 years on it.

In all honesty I do not see a very large range here in NC on developer salaries, what I PAINFULLY DO SEE, is a broad range of talent... Sadly enough there are plenty of guys making 120k per year that could not program a microwave

a good chunk of those costs could be attributed to cloud/hybrid/in-house/different region replication "systems", AI related "hardware" investments, and other costs related to various standards and security certifications related to the motorcycle industry.

i am using "IT" to define all "computer tech staff members", from the person that setup the badge/computer/email to the software/hardware engineers .

depending on the requirements, contracts and "industry standards" all of the "IT" debt might just be their yearly operation costs. keep in mind GDPR and other standards from other parts of the world.

if the main "IT Team" was slow or had other projects or did not have the budget/talent, it makes sense to have other IT entities (within the same company) do what the main IT team could not do ...

probably software/hardware related salaries in Austria are not the same as in USA/UK/NL/DE/and so on.

depending on their 3rd party software/licenses dependencies, those costs could be as high as their "server" costs.

'makes pretty web sites' this was funny

So apparently whoever makes the app that unlocks and works with their E2 kids electric bike is owed a chunk of money. They locked dealers out of the ability to activate and register the bike. I guess KTM worked a deal for like a week or so and are telling dealers to unlock all their E2’s in stock as access to the app will go away again soon. Wonder if that’s one of the software companies being discussed here.

No the companies I am researching do not do any hardware or programming for hardware on the bikes, that is their R&D entity that as far as I know has not filed for insolvency yet. These guys just run internal manufacturing software, and dealership access software etc.

They employ PHP Programmers, and that type of stuff. Nothing that is related to making a bike run, or bike diagnostics, etc...

I am not sure who is doing the E-Bike stuff that sounds like a 3rd party these companies I am discussing are completely owned by PM

@Ducman851, Daniel 'Chucky' Sanders is leading the Dakar Rally on a KTM at the end of the first week.
Luciano Benavidas won today's stage, and is 7th overall. Rookie Edgar Canet is in 10th, on a trimmed down team.
Toby Price and Sam Sunderland were let go and 'trying' their hands in a Toyota truck.

They were offered a deal to settle their debts at $0.30 on the dollar but replied they would have to borrow the $0.30 to pay it.....

cost nothing to give away something you'll probably never have to make good on. Good PR though as it implies they will still be here in 4 years

Junior developers at my job start at ~$130K in salary, so layering in bonus and fringe gets them up to $200K in cost pretty quickly.

The senior developers are $200K+ in base, putting them well over $300K in cost.

Those are just in year cash numbers and exclude any equity appreciation.

Company in based on Northern Virginia but fully remote.

130K for a junior developer is crazy high. At those numbers whoever you are working for must be doing government work, because we do not see anything like those numbers down here in the south or even in Vegas, That's high even for California numbers.

I don't have any devs on staff making $200k.
I agree with Critter's statements here.

are we talking software or hardware ?

are we including FAANG (and other companies that are on the same level) ? a junior dev with a salary of 130k (base + stock + possible bonus) is not that unheard of in SD, LA, SF, NY and other similar locations.

junior dev means many things these days, might have a degree or not, open source contributions, apps published, internships, personal projects (live on the internet), switching from sysadmin/network/qa to dev and so on, which will make the salary range vary a lot.

We are discussing DEV salaries NOT in the high rent districts, listed and kinda what constitutes a senior and junior dev. I get people that put senior DEV on their resume but have never created anything from a blank white screen. All they have ever done is maintain code, I also have people tell me they are senior dev and don't know how to normalize data, so yeah it's tough hiring them
