My old boss Giorgio Barbier and Oscar who took over for me when I retired are always looking for more Americans to race WSBK & WSS so I'm sure they were helping too.
She has ridden at Mugello before albeit at a track day. Snippet from the article linked below. “According to her father, ex-racer David Yaakov, Kayla has ridden at Mugello before, a track day on the Yamaha YZF-R7 Cup bike she raced occasionally in 2023” https://www.roadracingworld.com/new...s-wild-card-in-italian-supersport-at-mugello/
Dude… Chillax! It was sarcasm. He was just making commentary about previous comments on here where some said she wasn’t fast enough or even deserving of her current ride in MA.
Lol....I've probably got every complex known to man...but not sure how that one equated to victim complex. I'm sure there's some other post I've made that qualifies though...
I get it. I just still haven't really seen people taking shots at her for her current ride. What I have seen are: 1. People constantly referencing these shots at her - starting to feel like some kind of made up scenario. 2. People being very realistic about her current ability and expectations; as in she is not ready for something like Moto2 or WorldSBK I'm sure there was at least one person who did cast doubt on whether she deserved the Rahal ride but I'm just not seeing/never saw the supposed plethora of people (at least not on the beeb) being critical of her current ride. I'll also take this opportunity to say I'm super stoked for her and believe this opportunity is exactly the kind of thing she can benefit from right now. High vis international exposure at a world renowned track, on a platform she's familiar with, but at a competitive national level that doesn't come with the same kind of pressure and insanely high standard of performance that you'd get in either the WorldSBK or GP paddock.
Hey Q @redtailracing I don’t think we’ve ever met but…. how did you pick your blue and orange paint scheme way back then? It’s common now but not when your pic was taken… And your username is for the red tailed Hawk I’m assuming? just curious as those things are prevalent in all my stuff too since the 90s… finally got around to asking…
I don't know that I ever said there were a "plethora" of doubters (I love that people on here even think to use a word like that), but there were some people who were pretty vociferous about her legitimacy for any kind of paid ride. So yes, I'm being a sarcastic dick, poking fun at those people. Could I choose to be less petty? Well.....where's the fun in that? And to be clear, I am realistic about her current ability and expectations. I'm not saying she's the second coming of Schwantz. But I'm super impressed with her humility, work ethic, and positive attitude. Those characteristics can take you a long way in most areas of life. Your last point is right on target and shows that whomever is managing her (not to take credit away from Kayla herself), is making smart moves for her future. Trying to take too big of a bite in the wrong venue, is a recipe for failure.
Just because you missed it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Unlike talking burning bushes, you can actually find proof that it did. You don't have to take it on faith. That's not what's being discussed here. Hell, you've been here long enough that your default setting should have been the assumption that there were people who immediately responded by saying that their favorite unemployed or underemployed rider was more deserving of the ride.
Decided I wanted to repaint the bike one day. Was too poor to pay anyone. Figured even though it would be an amateur job, bright colors would at least potentially attract more attention for sponsors right? lol The plates needing to be yellow were factored in and my logo that I had stickers printed for was red (not obvious in my picture but it stood out in person). So I picked 2 more bright colors I thought would look half decent. Want to say I got inspired by Hayden Gillim's bike back then - it was bright and multicolored. That's pretty much it. I later swapped to a much cleaner white and black scheme with a red tail section when I had someone more skilled paint my next bike. And yep, basically spot on with the name. Dad started it. My family's property that both he and I both grew up on frequently had red tail hawks around, perched up in places and my dad was always fascinated by them and enjoyed opportunities to watch them hunt. Coincidentally, his first race bike was a Super Hawk. So when he started racing, it just seemed natural. I started racing a little under a year after he passed and absent any better ideas, just seemed to make sense continuing to use his team name.
Fair enough. I guess I just missed it. And by all means, I'll for being a sarcastic dick if it wasn't already obvious Not surprised the direction her dad has taken. From what I've read here of his background, seems like the kind of dude that would know the ropes and know what pathways provide the most opportunity for success. Between his guidance, the people they have surrounded themselves with, and most of all, Kayla's own attitude and approach to the sport, I think it's a recipe for a lot of continued success. Interestingly I don't actually think she's among the more naturally gifted of the kids out there, which I know might be blasphemy around these parts. But if you think about it, she's never really just jumped on a new platform and immediately been at the pointy end. Which honestly is even more impressive. I have absolutely zero data to back this up but I bet if you defined an equation to determine most improved rider every year, she'd have either won it or been in the top 3 every year of the last 4. There seems to often be measurable improvement almost every single weekend where a lot of her contemporaries just kind of languish in the same place for awhile. Just further speaks to her work ethic and the group around her. 3 rounds left and she's in 6th but only 20 points behind 3rd. I'd damn near bet my whole paycheck she finishes the season higher than she currently sits.
That's fair. I guess it always just felt like she kind of sat in what I will call the Nicky Hayden or Josh Hayes category - pretty much unanimously loved throughout the beeb and as much time as I spend on here, I guess I just felt like if people were throwing shade at the situation it would have stood out in my memory, just like if they did at Nicky or Josh because it would be so unusual. Maybe I got busy around that part of the offseason and didn't stay as up to date with the threads around here as I often do.
That's exactly my point, and I think I've made it on here before. She most DEFINITIVELY isn't the most naturally gifted. She clearly works harder than most, is humble enough to know she has to, and that will pay dividends. When my boys were young, my oldest absolutely was bonkers over motorcycles. Despite his enthusiasm, he never had the natural gift of balance, motor control, and observational skills that would allow him to be a great rider. But he loved everything about bikes, and while he never got into formal competition aside from some amateur ice racing, he became proficient. My youngest got on a bike and just ripped. Every natural gift you need to be good on bikes, he was born with....and he couldn't care less. I could occasionally get him to go riding, but it just wasn't his thing. I think Kayla has some natural abilities, but her attitude and work ethic will take her farther than most people would expect. Do I think she has a path to MotoGP? Unfortunately, no. I hate to be the naysayer, but those guys have her drive along with hitting the genetic lottery.
Sadly, yep. That said, I have no doubt that she has a very fulfilling career ahead of her in the industry if she wants it.
tbh yall have helped me massively temper my expectations and realize being fast or a winner has less and less to do with getting opportunities for all the young guns doing work here. back to the actually ride and races, does anyone know anything about this class / series? Can we watch, whos good, is this a good team, etc etc.
Looks as though highlights are provided on the CIV championship homepage. Perhaps livestreams are available (they do have an app), but my Italian sucks.
