Does anyone have the phone number of the company or person who sales this wonderful tool? Its just a plastic tool that holds the Rear brake caliper in place as you mount the rear wheel, makes the job much easier. Someone loaned it to my in the pits at Barber and Id like to buy my own. Any info on this tool would be appreciated!
Piper 707 or something like that, he was from Washington state iirc. Had his gsxr for sale on classifieds, you may be able to find him there
Make one.....weld or JB weld the adjuster block to the axle and then cut to desired length and chamfer the leading edge of the the axle where you made the cut. I think I used the spare axle and adjustment block from my previous bike.
Ummmm...... couldn't you just put the axle in partially to hold it?? Wait a second. Or is this one of the years that the axle goes in from the other side and cannot be switched?
The last part... the brake side is first to go... Never tried switching it, but wouldn't want to leave stuff dangling around on the threads... Plus, even if you did it, the axle would be dangling almost a foot over the side--this seems like a much better solution, looking forward to trying it out.
I think that was me who loaned you the wooden one. If it was, glad I could help. If it wasn't me, well...have fun with your new toy! For those others who have asked, the axle does get switched around, and put in from the sprocket side. Inserting just the threaded side into the caliper won't work since the threads are a smaller diameter than the axle itself. For a quick fix, a spark plug socket is just about the right diameter for the job. if it is too small of a diameter, wrap a piece of duct tape around it. This tool DOES save a lot of time and headaches. Good luck to all. Dan the man #672 Expert
It's shown this way in the parts diagrams and service manual for my 1K7. I will get one of these, though I usually had pretty good luck without it. It became a whole lot easier once I swapped my swingarm (due to crash damage) two weeks ago.
Worth its weight in gold for R6's. Maybe not as necessary for Gixxer's as the caliper is more captive on those.
WOW!!!... big thanks for the dude that started this thread! I sold 5 GSXR/R6 Caliper Tools today... that might be a record FYI... GSXR, R6, CBR600, ZX6, and 2nd Gen SV caliper tools are all on the WERA Classifieds... check the ads for year compatability. and buy my superbike for sale too!!!
Bumping an old post! Is piper907 still around and selling these caliper tools? I couldn't find them in the classifieds. Sent him a PM yesterday. I need another for a friend! Awesome product!
