Unfortunately this actually happens several times per year and I've seen it myself a few times in my own area. The Sheriffs & DOC won't maintain a 'live' inventory database of who's in custody for the 1st week or 2 while the person gets processed. The courts then notify the jurisdictional agency (county or city police here) and the fugitive apprehension task forces go out and try and find someone who's been in jail for days without record.
As if you needed another reason not to venture into Cobb county or bother calling for Barney's "help".
While there are Idjets in every profession, there are lots more that do a good job every day and go above and beyond as well. This has been going on for 20 years, delivering presents and food to families Christmas morning.
