Donuts for the instructors, warm clothes for time not on the track, food and drinks. Energy drinks are not a good idea if this is your first time at the track. Believe me, you'll have enough adrenaline going without having an extra boost.

    bump, couple of questions.
do i need to lose my kickstand?
and where is a super cheap place to lodge? is grand rapids close enough?
is there a suspension guy there can set up my suspension at the track?

Lose the kick-stand. If it's not required for the class, it's still a good idea.

I'd also seriously advise that axle bolts, pinch-bolts, and caliper bolts be wired. I believe those are all required to actually race; if not for the class. the axle bolts are the only ones big enough to be kind of a pain.

Someone will have a look at your suspension if you ask. I don't think there will be any suspension guys there to actually work on it. Concern yourself more with getting through the class and being SMOOTH on the track. to other riders and see what they did to their suspension to give you an idea of where to start.

Candlestone Inn for lodging  It's the closest. Decent price.

I was going to sign up for that but chickened out. Don't like riding when it's really cold.
See you when spring starts for real.

It'll be chilly during the track walk and in the classrooms. By the time you're on the track it looks to be in the upper 30's low 40's. Warm clothes are advised for the track walk. Freezing was the year it was in the twenties and there was ice on the track and in the tech shed. We didn't ride that day.

All you need for the school is what is listed on the entry form. If you want to, check the online rulebook for whatever race organization you're planning to race with and have at it. Remember, patience is a virtue when drilling for safety wire.

if you're changing yoru fluids for spring (i.e. oil, removing antifreeze and putting in water wetter, etc.) anyway, it's easiest to just drill those bolts while they're off the bike and get it over with.

Even before I intended to race, anything load-bearing was wired on my bike. A loose, or loosening axle is bad news whether you're on the track or the street... In my case; and this might be an issue on your '06 600RR too, the rear axle adjusters tend to allow the rear wheel to pull forward if the axle nut isn't torqued to spec. If nothing else, the safety wire gives me the peace of mine that my axle is staying at 110 ft-lbs (or whatever proper spec is - i'd have to look it up).
