I wouldn't be surprised if he's just done, because he's had to endure a face full of people ragging at him (deservedly so), and he just doesn't want to deal with it anymore.
Had me curious now,as to what his choice of poison was now.Couldnt find it on goggle serch.. I did however find his projected net worth as of last year!! Freddie Spencer Net Worth His net worth has been growing significantly in 2022-2023. So, how much is Freddie Spencer worth at the age of 62 years old? Freddie Spencer’s income source is mostly from being a successful Racer. He is from United States. We have estimated Freddie Spencer's net worth , money, salary, income, and assets. Net Worth in 2023 $1 Million - $5 Million I'm sure that bank roll is growing "significantly" sticking it up peoples ass,and leaving folks holding the bag, while he goes back to England! Sorry..Can't help but giggle! I have met some of the best friends in life racing, and have also had it broke off in me from "supposed" friends racing. If racers can't f-You who can? Some guy's are like crack heads, rob, cheat, and still.Damn shame to put his name, and legacy in the shitter on his way out. Maybe Arai will release a final replica with a big Rat on the back?
Based on his comments in the press release it almost sounds like one of those situations where people can either resign willingly or be given the boot. Like major corporations or political scandals. There could have been pressure from the teams and riders to make a change if he really sucked that bad at the job. Without firsthand knowledge it’s pure speculation but it kinda sounds like that to me. Here are his comments: Freddie Spencer: “It’s been a pleasure to have been the first Chairman of the panel, and to have worked to put in place the incredible people and procedures we have now. When I was asked to be the Chairman, I accepted as I wanted to contribute to the sport and I’m proud of my tenure. I’m looking forward to some exciting projects in the future, and I know the team will be in great hands with Simon.”
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that a lot of the teams were pressuring Dorna to make a change. But I could also see him just constantly getting a ration of crap, and just saying fine, I'm out.
I raced against Freddie at IRP one year in the late 70s. He was on an RD400 and I was on my CB400F. Although he did beat me I am still confident it was only because his bike was faster.
I totally get that and see how it could also be the case too. It’s just plain fun to speculate the juicier version.
That's what's great about you Ken, the eternal optimist ..... And stop talking about stuff like that, cuz it reminds me how freaking old you are, which means I'm right there with you.
I'd prefer they went back to track/curb/gravel/grass, instead of various colors of curb/pavement and sensors. If someone grossly cuts a chicane there should obviously be a penalty, but a few millimeters into the paint here and there isn't making a noteworthy difference in laptime, let alone penalty worthy.
There has to be a final do not cross line somewhere. Give them a few mm leeway and they'll use it every lap. Add a few mm more as a cushion and that'll be used too.
IIRC the tracks replaced gravel traps with pavement at the request of the FIM, Dorna, and the teams. Reducing the number of crashes when riders go past the curb was the primary concern and reason for doing so. Maybe the FIM will decide that a few feet of gravel is acceptable like the FIA/F1 is using now. Or maybe one day they'll come up with a new material that slows the bikes down a lot on the other side of the curb but doesn't cause them to crash as often as gravel.
The big issue that the riders had with Freddie Spencer wasn't track limits. They know that he doesn't write the rules. Their problem was his lack of consistency with incidents involving two riders. It seemed that the decision to punish or not was too often random. That get sold real quick when the stakes are higher than BBSing.
Probably right, but the leader gets to take the responsibility. People probably think you are going to kill roadracing all by yourself, but we really know that you have minions to help you. In the end though, you will have the call and all of the "glory" that comes with it.
