Armored, pull over mesh shirt....Shoulder, forearm, kidney belt, chest and back protector....all in one. Surprisingly comfortable. I use the AXO Air. Love it.
The latest one I bought is the Thor Sentry XP vest/ jacket- it has all the armour options and it's more than a bargain compared to the other brands. It can be made to work with a neck brace but doesn't offer that out of the box, I've just seen reviews that talk about how to do it.
not a bad idea (i usually don't, but that's what makes me keep the speed i go in check, not advocating this method ) .. there are lots to choose from. those that are simple plastic frontal roost protectors, to full on body armor with elbow and forearm protection. and depends on if you wear neck brace, some are easier to use with neck braces..
I wear one always even though I still messed up my ribs while wearing one last June when I clipped through the trees. I am pretty sure it would have been much worse without one. I wear a FOX and it fits well enough. I wear a 2 liter camalbak over that. No issues with mobility and I hardly notice I'm wearimg it.
I have the fox Titan jacket, it's mesh full armored front and back, throw a jersey over it and you're good to go
+1 Love my Fox Titan jacket. It has saved my elbows, chest, back and shoulders more times than I can count (I crash a lot, and at 42 need all the help I can get.) If, like me, you are going to be riding in tight, heavily wooded areas, definitely put a jersey on over it, the material likes to snag passing tree branches, that's the only bad thing I can say about it.
I was off my KDX more than i was on it when i was riding the past couple years. Every time i hit the deck i kept thinking how bad that would 've hurt or broke, my forearm and shoulders. That kidney belt is nice too. Keeps your guts from floppin' around like a bowl of Jello in a paint shaker. I have the Titan knee cap/shin guards too. What do you guys think about the Alpinestars donut/neck ring? I do wear that when i ride too. Doesn't bother me at all. It's better than nothing i guess?
Because of my rib/lung issues, and after last summer falling in a rock garden that put a huge rock thru my ribs (breaking 2 in 4 places) ....I now use the Leatt 5.5 HD. From my research, arguably nothing protects the ribs during a side impact better.
I picked up the fly racing body armour suit. Seemed to have good reviews and it feels protective and comfortable. Haven't had the chance to crash it yet. Didn't like the idea of piecing together the various protectors for the upper body.
http://www.alpinestars.com/bionic-tech-jacket-2016#.WHZU7kc76Ec I wear that under my jersey, a bns Carbon neck brace and bionic shorts under my pants. Next for me is proper knee protection and better boots. Probably going to get the Sidi Crossfire 2's and TJ recommended a good pair of knee pods.
My brother ordered a protection package off ebay that came with knee/shin guards, torso/arm armor and some padded shorts from china. I've never heard of the brand and I figured it was gonna be junk since it was only 60$ or so. The upper body armor turned out to be the exact same as my brand new fox one.
Check out the Tech 7 Enduro boot- the added grip they provide makes a huge difference when you put a foot down.
I was picking up parts the other day for a bike and they had the Tech 7's, Tech 10's and Crossfires on display. I thought I really wanted the Tech 10's but I'm pretty stuck between the 7's and Crossfire 2's now. Both look great, I'm wearing Sidi Discovery Rain's right now and they're getting the job done but want something a bit more rigid and less flex side to side. Next month I'll pick up boots/knee pods. Looking at the enduro's now too.
I'll second the Bionic tech jersey. It's pretty comfortable, but if you have larger forearms, the elbow guard straps will get really uncomfortable. I run it without cinching them down. And if you hug a tree with one arm, it doesn't protect some parts of the inner arm. And if you want a great knee brace, get yourself into an Asterisk Ultra Cell. Should you have never ridden with good knee protection before, they makes you feel a little wide on the bike at first. But, it goes away quickly. Not cheap, but neither is six months of physical therapy after knee surgery.
My only issue with the forearms on the tech jersey is that I'm really lanky and have super long arms so getting the elbow/forearm to a comfortable position can be a chore. But really, I love it and it saved me a lot of pain last time I rode. https://www.ridersdiscount.com/pod-k8-carbon-fiber-knee-braces-pair-199737 These are the ones TJ recommended when I was looking at the A*'s, I like the look of those Asterisk's too.
I got the Gaerne G-Reacts for boots. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/gaerne-g-react-boots Great boot for the money. https://www.google.com/#tbm=shop&q=gaerne+g+react+boots+
