I'm considering putting one together for the 2025 season of racing. Has anyone gone down this road here already? Curious what are the dos and don'ts as well as the necessary upgrades (versus optional stuff).
get ahold of MP13/ESP and get the right info… I’ve had Evan and Phil in my pit many times and trust them with anything… further tooting of their horn… they’re thinkers and have had some of the fastest most reliable bikes on the grid(next to mine ) but seriously they got deep into development on unruly chassis like the first gen S1000RR and so much more… with this season of building/running them I’m sure they’ll have the best info possible outside of the world stage
Agree with 27, they were on the hot pit next to us at Laguna. Both bikes were going really well for being new
I have heard the engines are sealed and no one in the US can actually work on them… didn’t know the truth to this but would love to confirm..
That is false. Your best bet is to get one built by MV instead of doing buying a dealership one and doing it yourself. If you are truly interested I know the right people for you to talk to.
they’re low key guys that get it done…. I worked closely with them when they won a championship with Josh Day, I engineered the first ecu flashings with car guys on my team 15 years ago now… they put Chris Peris and Robertino Pietre up front they’ve been at it for so long and have real skills… unlike many parts changers in the paddock… Not a lot of guys that I’d compliment like them but they are the real deal and great guys and fun to be around. Real Racers’ wrenches
For additional context, I’m posting this from the desk inside the MV Los Angeles dealership. Haha. I’m definitely open to an already built and ran track bike. I’m mostly interested in the fun aspect and I did my time trying to be highly competitive. Now I’d like to be mildly competitive-ish and not sink extra $ into building the motor, unnecessary upgrades, etc. But working at the MV shop = why I’m choosing an F3. I know it’d be cheaper and easier to go the route of a GSXR or R6 or something.
MV Agusta Flagship Motorcycle Dealer Near Los Angeles | MV Agusta Los Angeles in Santa Monica, CA (mvagustala.com) Is this the shop you work at? That f3 is sweet!
I'm down the street and want to swing by for a look! Seriously been considering an older F/3 for club racing as well. I've had a couple Brutalés in that size that were stellar. The 800 platform is such an amazing unit!
There was a guy racing an F3 all season long in what I believe was AMA's last year (before becoming MA) around or just after the time you and I were racing Wera West (2011/2012?). I'm pretty sure Bryce Prince would know him --- I think his name was Dan? He lived above The Strip on Sunset Blvd - ring a bell? If you still can't figure it out by Saturday, I'll be with Bill Nations from PI and I'm sure he would know of him.... it's been done and is entirely doable. I remember Rocky wanting to get his hair into that bike, too. He thought it would make an excellent platform to compete with.
Back then it’d be the 675 motor though. A little info, the black 800 motors are the best bet. The earlier 800 motors had some issues. The current black ones are good though. I also know Javelin Broderick ran the 675 F3 back then in WERA & AMA when I was racing too. I neee to find someone more current though so the knowledge is apples to apples so to speak. I think Meli’s guys would be a great start and maybe someone doing more budget club stuff would be ideal to see what they’ve done.
I think Andy DiBrino also ran one in MA 2 years ago at select rounds - built by Eric at EDR Performance in OR.
When she was riding still? I did a Toyota endorsement for her helmet at NJ around 2014 I think it was… can’t remember who was wrenching for her…
That reminds me I have Tundra “commercials” with all of them from that race… Meli, Rog, Taylor, Slick, Barney, a bunch of other “kids” that are fast now… I had a fleet of Tundras and Tacomas and recorded short endorsement videos… we had fun and I was able to put some cash in their pockets… Roger Lee actually won a Superbike race that weekend… told him it was all old school luck from me
