Seems that the '03 SV650 needs a 12mm hex for the front axle. Unfortunately it's not in the toolkit and I can't find anything larger than a 10mm anywhere. Is there some little trick that I don't know about?
Sears will have it. That's where I got mine. Barring that....check one of the online tools places. I got a couple of ratchet head's for that size. (Of course Clark 'borrowed' one....and eventually paid me for it....DOH!)
I got mine at the local AutoZone. They had a set with an 8/10/12/14 socket for less than $10. It is pretty funny how many times that stupid thing gets lent out once they know you have it...
I bought mine at Sears too. When you buy it, if you find it at Sears, also buy a 12mm socket. What I did was cut off a piece of the allen wrench and stick it in the 12mm socket. This will allow you to use a torque wrench/ratchet to tighten the axle when you are done and you should have a piece left over to replace the allen bit if you ever strip it or lose it. Or you could find a place that sells hex bits.
Hey- you were me a year ago. I searched my old thread, titled 03 SV front axle question and found the answer to be that it is a 12mm, and can be bought at sears. Good luck
Ya pay $6000 of a guy's mortgage AND babysit his kid once in a while, and he STILL get's pissy when you borrow a tool. Geeeeez... what an ingrate.
I even fanned a wad of cash at him, but he didn't take any. Missed his opportunity I tell ya. If I wasn't flying home, I probably wouldda stole that puppy. He's sooooooo cute!! Nothing like his owner.
In a pinch, you can always use a bolt and a series of jam nuts. Just grab a hex head bolt from the hardware store that's the correct size to fit inside the axle. I used this for my R1, R6 and older GSXR axles. Unfortunately, I don't recall what size bolt you need.
Thank you! I hit Sears over lunch and... they had every size EXCEPT 12mm, which was out of stock. Damn! Drove to another Sears and they had 3 of them. Still going to see if Autozone has that set though...
Taxes have been at the CPA for over a month. I know of a perfectly good 2004 Honda 250 just waiting to be bought. As soon as I do, it's hare-scramble time!!
Better get on it then man. This is the race this weekend. If you wanna ride it...the YZ just needs the forks put back on it. http://tomahawkmx.com/index.html
