Whatever significance you attach to the British Monarchy, you have to admit, at 96 years she did not fuck up like most of the rest of her family and led a (mostly) scandal-free life and did her job. I say, well done. RIP
RIP to the Queen. Just for my own information, and forgive my ignorance on the topic, but why is the US flying flags at half staff for a foreign ruler?
Respect for the leader of one of our allies I believe. Doubt they'd fly it 50% for Putin. But I could be wrong.
No she wasn't, India and Pakistan became independent countries in 1947, she ascended to the throne in 1952.
I happen to believe a constitutional monarchy is a favorable form of government. Hail King Charles. Dont shit the bed.
well she is not a ruler, so there's that...maybe for the same reason she ordered the kings guard to play the american anthem during the changing of the guard after 9/11 - respect in mourning
Whenever people bark about colonization I just asked them 2 simple questions… is anyone in an English colonized country worse off today than before colonization and English common law? Would YOU want to live in a pre colonized (insert country they are using) right now? usually ends the conversation
Sorry, can’t let this by. Interment is burial, internment is imprisonment. Doesn’t alter by one iota the sentiment, which is wonderful and respectful, but at some point a person needs to know what words mean, and how to spell them. Otherwise, you end up perpetuating your ignorance. Oh, I read it on X, it must be true. Not necessarily… Some of you dudes need to read something other than instruction manuals… WTF am I talking about, you don’t even read those…
I stand corrected. Upon further review India threw off dominion status in 1950, Pakistan in 1956. However, that same review indicated 70 more colonies still in existence when she was enthroned. The last being Hong Kng in 1997. Whether or not they are better off not is moot to the point of whether or not she was monarch during a time when there were nearly 700 million people in the world under the British boot.
