Road trip. Mansfield ohio to Road America. Anything to see?

Leaving wensday morning for Road America. Any places along the way worth stopping at. Says it is about a 7.5 hr trip but we aren't really press for.time as move in day isn't till Thursday. So, wondering if there's is any place worth stopping at on the way?

Dont visit Notre Dame. The campus is creepy.

Gary Indiana: skip the riverboat casino if its still there. And the white castle in Gary is the worst burger ive had in my life.

 

Southside of Chicago. Find Leroy Brown. I'm sure he's a nice enough chap and would give you a guided tour.

 

You’re in Wischeezland. Gotta go to Lambeau field.

 

Get to Wisconsin and find a cheese shop then taste and find a nice 4 or 6 yr old aged cheddar then buy 2 lbs and take it home. You can thank me now please

 

Where specifically, coming through cheeseland in a few days.....

 

The Chicago Tolls.....

 

It’s America’s fucking dairyland. There are almost as many cheese shops as there are bars!

 

So what’ll it take to get you to swing through Cleveland and grab me 5# of corned beef from Jack’s Deli?

New Jersey, PA, Ohio and Chicago tolls are a mere annoyance.

A truck with a 2 axle trailer from my house to NJMP up 95 and back to my house is almost $100 in tolls now I think for a 250ish mile round trip.
There's a toll on 95 right before you leave the State....the "Escape from Maryland" tax.

And they used to be higher.

Maryland SUCKS!

I hate Notre Dame. Went there once. The campus is beautiful. Very similar to Duke. Worth a stop. I truly hate ND but dammit it's pretty.

I think there are some Frank Lloyd Wright places up that way. May be worth checking out if you like that stuff.

 

Lots to see and do along the way, especially in Chicago. However, towing a trailer will make much of it difficult.

In Chicago, Lake Shore Drive (US-41) from Marquette Blvd to Hollywood Blvd is off-limits to trucks, trailers, RV's and commercial-licensed vehicles, so if you are towing a trailer, its a no-go. Its one of the best urban drives in the country.
Some 12+ beaches along the lakefront, Field Museum (natural history) Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium (these three are all within walking distance of each other), Museum of Science and Industry (geared towards kids mostly but has some cool locomotives and the U-505 German U-boat), Lincoln Park and Brookfield zoos, Noteabart Nature center, Lincoln Park and Garfield Park Conservatories, The Art Institute, Chicago History Museum, the Bean, and about a few hundred small ethnic and community historical museums and cultural centers. I don't know if the Chicago Academy of Sciences still has the snake exhibit/zoo, but as a kid it was pretty cool. Great food. Navy Pier took a big hit from the pandemic, but some things there may be open again. If you can find a place to park the trailer (you are welcome to put it in my driveway while you sight-see), you can have some good sightseeing.

Frank Lloyd Wright homes in Hyde Park and Oak Park. (There are others, including one in my neighborhood, but they are not open for tours.)

In Milwaukee, similar. Great museums, lakefront, parks, zoo, etc.

If you get off the interstate, the Wisconsin rustic roads (not good for towing though).

Near Gary, IN, the Indiana Dunes National Park.

Or just come by here, and we'll walk to a brewpub and have a beer.

I was going to suggest the Museum of Science and Industry or the Field Museum. Shedd Aquarium was nice too, but I think the Museum of Science and Industry was my favorite.

Catching a Cubs game is cool too.
