June 16th the Speedway there is having a motorcycle class as part of their "Show me the Money" series race. Basically, the rules are somewhat lax just make sure you arent leaking oil, and have good gear and tires and such. It pays from first to last so if you suck, you will still leave with some money. Its a 1/2 mile asphalt track and the oldest in Alabama and are very excited to have bikes back. I checked and there are no conflicts with WERA so I hope some of you come and support it and have a good time. The hot setup has seemed to be a motard or flat tracker as they seem to get through the corners faster. this is a vid shot from John Cohorn WERA expert on a Husaberg at Mobile Speedway which is about the same as the Montgomery track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kywVAeCsA0k
That looked like an odd mixture of bikes on a flat track. What was the tire of choice: slicks, DOTs, or 19" dirttrack?
all of the above. I've been doing these races for years. Won on slicks and goodyears and both work good. Dirt track tires are a lil more fun cause they move around and you can really smoke the tire everywhere (which the crowd loves) but for the outright fastest laps, slicks.
No, I am not the promoter. The track is doingthis themselves. I am simply helping spread the word since its somewhat near ATL area and Birmingham. Contact Chris Carter @ the track and Im sure he can help if I cannot.
Just watched the vid. That looks fun as shit! I gotta go. I didn't see the track name in any of your posts.
Neat. That wall looks a bit scary, but that dude out front and the guy with the video cam were moving!
Vic, didn't know this place was near us. Getting my TTR125 setup for the new flat track at Monster Mountain. If I had something to ride I would definitely be all over this, but I think my TTR would be a little bit outclassed. Are there any open track days to get some practice in before the event?
