    Hey all:
Some of you have asked how you can help me moving forward. Well, I started a web site which is the title to this thread. I still need to add content but it's a start and I'm new to the whole web site development dealio.

Anyways, I'm feeling more human each day the brace is off. It's time to really test myself and start more meaningful physical therapy. I've got 2 weeks insurance will cover me in Greenville and then I'm on my own dime. If I ever want to walk again I have to push hard and do non-conventional therapy.

I'm looking very hard at Project Walk in Atlanta to follow up my therapy in Greenville. It isn't cheap and I know if I want to make a hard go of it I'll have to do some fund raising. The web site is a first step so I hope you all can take a look.

    Thanks,
    Joe

I would be glad to help out a fellow racer and friend. Especially one that is motivated like yourself

Joe just a suggestion, it might not be a bad idea to have a facebook link so folks can post this on their personal pages easily. Most of my FB friends are road racers as well, I'm sure they would be more than receptive to hear about a fellow racer needing help. Just a though.

Hey Joe, great stuff in the works. I think my brat auction idea is a no-go as folks are all jumping on the raffle thing.
I will plan to use my expense money from Rd Atlanta and Barber to paypal to the fund.
Hope this helps you get to a good place down the road!

It all sounds good to me Morris. I appreciate everyones efforts. There was a period a few weeks ago where depression had a hold of me. I feel as though I have moved past that and am optimistic about the future again. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming therapy. I know it will be really tough but that's fine by me.

Thank you all who have already donated. For some reason, I'm feeling much better the past 5 days. I have more motivation and I'm really forward to pushing myself in the therapy.

Hey Joe, I'm glad to read about your upturn in spirit and renewed determination. Take that and "run with it". I'm not kidding when I say, if the "Rocky" theme song, or "Eye of the Tiger" motivates you, crank up the volume. Looking forward to your impressive recovery, big guy!

Amazing day today. I had my first day of Physical Therapy here in Greenville. After the usual plethora of questions to bring the therapist up to speed, she had me transfer onto a mat from the chair. She then started to test what my current abilities are. Bottom line, she was holding my right leg and told me to try to pull the knee up to my chest. Well, the knee and leg moved about an inch. She told me to relax and then try again. Same result. Lisa was there to watch and confirmed the movement. So, I have something to build upon. I did not expect this today and needless to say I'm super excited about the possibilities.

Joe Im so glad to see this post from you. Listen when you start your theropy, try starting first in a pool. Its alot lower impact. Thats how I started after my back surgery and still use to this day since my heart surgery 2 years ago. Feeling great and cant wait to see everyone again. Hopefully soon.
Joe again glad to see you post up. Been praying for ya brother.

I saw the wound specialist surgeon today. He confirmed what I already thought. To get the wound healed it needs skin graft surgery. I go in Tuesday for this. This should only impact therapy in Greenville by a few sessions. However, it may delay me going to Project Walk due to follow up sessions where they build up the skin layers using cadaver skin. Sounds yummy, huh?

Gotta give myself a shot in the stomach with a needle each morning before the surgery date. I've never had to do this and I did it this morning. Kinda freaky but since I have limited feeling in that part of my body it was no big deal. The thought of doing it was stranger than the actual act.

    Self inflicted stomach shot- ouch.

The needle thing is kind of creepy as I acquired a fear of needles when I was a kid (bad experience during a terribly high fever). Then I go a join the military. Standing in a line of guys getting shots from either side... SUCKED! When prepping for middle-east deployment a few of us had to take advanced medical training and we practiced giving each other an IV. What the heck was I thinking?

This isn't the dungeon but I'm going to say it anyway... I believe in God and he has a funny way of forcing me to face the things I fear the most.

Fast forward to 6 1/2 years ago. I meet Susan and find that she's a type 1 diabetic. Has had it since childhood. She went through parts of her life when required to give herself insulin shots. I've had diabetic friends in the past that have had to do it. For me, un-imaginable. Susan's diabetes is tough to manage sometimes and she deals with seizures quite often. A few years ago her endocrinologist introduced us to the glucagon shot. When her seizure is really bad and looking like I can't bring her out of it, as much as I hate doing it I mix the vile and give her the shot. I didn't have much of a problem giving my horses their vaccinations but a human... :wow: But it is/was alright. The means strengthens the focus allowing the application.

I suppose my stories don't relate directly but just to let you know, we're all here for you and trying to relate the best we can. You're doing great! Just keep doing what Joe does best... prevail.
