The problem with Dune is that they tried to stuff a huge novel with a huge backstory into a single movie. It didnt help that they attempted to make the film like 3 times realizing it just couldnt be done properly....the amount of material left on the cutting floor ended up with the atrocity that is Dune...but the books are phenomenal.
