So, what are you *REALLY* looking forward to for this upcoming race season (of your own, or if you are just a pitmonkey, spectator, or whatever). I wanted to make this a topic and not a poll so there's plenty of weird crap posted up i guess. Me? For some reason I really just can't wait to smell VP fuel being burnt. (of course combined with the sun on my back and the sound of bikes ripping down a long straight) Do I have a dependency problem?
Yeah, this "off season" has be rough. Ready to get back to the track: shortage of sleep, money, & time will be a welcome site  Some of us don't get an "off season", race schools and track days go year round here in the southeast.
Same as the last three years: 1. Don't crash 2. Win at least 1 championship 3. Don't break the bike 4. Have fun (will be if goals 1-3 are met)
It's my first year so........ - don't die or become seriously maimed - don't kill or maim anyone else - don't total the bike - :wow: - ok how about have fun - not finish last at least a couple of times - and enjoy becoming an official race addict! - oh yeah, exhaust fumes are so nice too! That's the official 'smell' of spring for me!
As a newbie, learning how to dial in my suspension, learning new tracks, etc. Simply getting faster and keeping it upright are the goals for the season. I agree about the sounds and the VP fuel smell. I have the fever in a bad way!! LWT Novice#540
I'm looking forward to testing myself against a competetive novice group of riders. I tried to do that last weekend, but I was too busy with creative landscaping to do much competing. Oh, and now that it happened, I'm definitely looking forward to avoiding a repeat performance
I'm looking forward to seeing how much I've improved since last year. I'm pretty excited because last season, I was a beginner in every sense of the word. This season, I know the drill and I'm familiar with most of the tracks I'll visit. I'm really hoping my off season training and suspension improvements will help.
my first season, i looked forward to... a) gettin' the bike home in one piece. b) gettin' me home in one piece. i failed "a)" at the first event and "b)" at the last event. i don't look forward anymore.
Looking back at last year (my first year) I realize how much I DIDN'T know. Looking forward to being able to upgrade my bike throughout the year so I'm not riding on junk tires and stock suspension. I'm also looking forward to smelling the VP exhaust. Most of all, I'm looking forward to lapping the Pirate.
Doing it right this time (again). I am tired of hearing that "(I) was fast." I want to be fast and consistent. I want to win. No excuses, no shortcuts, no "I can't afford this so I'll just try to ride around it." No more looking to others for setup information and smashing myself to bits trying to validate spending the money and time with them. I need to trust my 27 years of experience in bike setup. I need to trust my intuition instead of second-guessing myself. I need not be afraid to make adjustments and test. It's nice to know pros around the world on a first name basis, to be acknowleged by national and world champions, and have WSB and Moto GP crew chiefs' phone numbers on speed dial, but it don't mean shit unless I am willing to take advantage of what they may have to offer. Fast guys get all the sponsorship not just because they are fast but because they finish races. In 2006 I will get my shit together and actually finish races.
1.) Have fun 2.) No crashing 3.) Improve and get a little quicker 4.) Not get run over in my first year as an expert
Lap JB Lap ColeSlaw (no problem at Grattan) Lap HeavyPenny Maybe drink some beer and do the nasty on finish lines across America.
1) Stay upright. 2) Don't let it get to me when I don't stay upright. 3) Kick some serious ass. 4) Learn and improve. 5) HAVE FUN!
