I thought the exact same thing. My brother has the shorter barrel and the extra weight and length was noticeable on mine. Dad has a 25 year old vanguard with the shorter barrel in 270 and that gun has killed probably 50 deer between my dad and brothers. If you can hold it in real life I would. I grew up shooting a single and on the range I'm fine with 2stage but I missed a couple animals on quick shots with the two stage. Haven't missed since I'm back to my A bolt
Yeah if I go with the Vanguard I'll definitely do a lot of off-hand shooting at the range before I go into the woods with it, so to get comfy with the trigger. From what I've read more like it than don't. We'll see.
