To be honest if I was racing any of the sportsman races, I don't think I would like the winner take all format. Just seems like the whole year would be a waste if you had a bad weekend at the GNF. I don't know of any other championship decided like this.

Winner take all at gnf! Do it!! (I don't have enough points to win this year )

Said the cherry picker that has raced 2 races this year....LOL...this is my point and this is what I will do next year if this type of system is adopted.

    I don't either. LOL

So let me ask everyone this, If we still have to race a minimum of 6 races to decide points towards Championship for points
But throw out counting the 6 best but count all scores towards total points. would that work better.
Say lets cap what points you need at 120 so you have to race 6 races with all wins, But say you don't win them all and have a few 2nds or what ever your finishes are,
but they all apply to your points, say you have like 135 or anything over or at least 117, cause at 117 you would have to win race to win title at GNF.
So at GNF anyone over 120 would have their points cut to 120 so they are tied and then we would have more guys running for the title.
That would help anyone who had a bad race and they can just make another race to get the rest of their points.
Cause the way it is if you have 1 bad race it can waste your year and this way it wont hurt guys who have put in the hard work and won races it will give others a chance as well.
The double points can still apply also so that makes it wide open for us to throw down at GNF.
I don't think a winner take all race like other class is right for the vintage Class.
I think this will help put more racers on grids too and help with resale of the bikes we race too.
Its simple and will make for better racing for title.
As it sits if you have a bad race more then once there is no incentive to race anymore due to counting 6 best.
Last yr Norm had 119 in V7HW and won race, By my points system he would have won title and should have.
It brings being the fastest at GNF more important and some guys may have sorted out their bikes by then.
And it wont hurt anyone who spent the money to race cause they can still hit another race to add to points total.
Id like to Thank Mongo for looking at this problem. We need more vintage racers. Its a fun class with some of the best riders in the country in this class.
I hope this is the start to growing a class that is low in turn out.
I would also like us to be moved in front of the Novice classes for safety reasons. Hard to outrun a later model bike in a straight line.
They slow us down lap time wise also. and we are finishing up high up in novice overall from way back.
That would open us up to not dealing with back markers and can race guys in our class.
    Thoughts?

This would be better for the organization than a winner take all format, because it would incentivize people to get out on the track and race as much as possible. But on the other hand it would cap the points, so someone that had unlimited weekends couldn't run the table on you just by showing up. It would keep the integrity of the championship as a points building system, rather than a show up at the end of the year and cherry pick a national championship, if you had the speed to do so anyways. (insert Ted Cobb here) just saying...And in the end, the more the merrier, it will all shake out at the GNF.

And this is why I love vintage. A bunch of guys wanting to race for wins.
That's what make the National title so important. It's worth it. Lol

That's where I'm torn. I know it would get some riders to not show as often but I wonder how many don't bother to show because they feel they are out of the running?

Regional points standings would as with Sportsman determine grid spots too.

    The Olympics....

The issue I think is people discounting regional championships which is totally ridiculous. They absolutely matter and they take effort and skill to win in the majority of classes.

So you get to 120 points because while you're not fast enough to win you go to more races?

And with 120 points being easily accessible for everyone it becomes winner take all at the GNF anyway.

So while yeah, that would get us more entries I don't see an inherent different in your idea than what I proposed except it gives more points to those able or willing to travel to more events.

Cherry picking is bullshit. It's a cop out used by slow riders. This is racing, if you can't beat the other person you're slower than they are and calling them names isn't going to make you a faster rider...

Ted Cobb is definitely faster than me!! But racing one or two races a year and showing up at the GNF and winning the race for a national championship is cherry picking!!

Again, this is racing not tiddly winks - you want championships, be the fastest person in the class ;)

The problem I would have is I'm a northern boy, so a proposed 1 race takes all seems to me to favor those that are more familiar with the track (currently Barber) versus the one who is consistently faster at most tracks

Actually 120 points with wins is not easily accessible as has been case this yr if you have a bad day on track or bike problems.
Actually what it does is open it up for guys who at some tracks may have a problem or not fast at that track but at Barber they may Excell. But what this does is make sure we all have to race to have a chance to go for National title.
And if you have more than 1 bad race it won't kill your run for points by counting 6 best. Just like it already has to some.
The incentive is still there to hit another race. As it sits now if your chasing National Title 2nd is same as last.
Now the problem is that last yr I got all my points cause I was only one on grid in my region. So I was guaranteed 20 point just for showing up and finishing the race.
Yet others had to race guys and trade wins which go against them when others did not. It levels the playing field and won't hurt ones who had no one else on grid in region.
Plus it keeps them racing to make more points.
The GNF will be winner take all and the fast guys will still shine just same as always. But it may drag more guys off couch and that's a plus for vintage and Wera.
Guys can still go after regional titles same as always.
But as for me I'm only chasing National Titles.
    As has been addressed already.
Winner take all will see a drop in regional grids.
As a rider it's up to me to get my equipment better. And I'm working on it.
But I'm out of the championship hunt all the way around as it sits.
I've never shown up thinking I'm going to get 2nd place. But it's a waste of time if you count 6 best for me to even finish a race. And I ran out of budget and time last weekend.
I'm giving Wera a way to not only give racers incentive to keep racing even if they have a few bad races to keep at it.
And I'm offering a way for guys who have perfect points to not be a waste of their time in quest of a National title.
It's your call. I want to race so i have a chance to win a National title and race the fastest Vintage guys in country.
I get the impression others feel same.
    Thanks for hearing me out.

Really. ..the Olympics? So the GNF is going to be 2 weeks long and we are going to have elimination races, then finals? So that kind of sounds like our regular season. But also you have to be in every race to advance. That shows commitment and that should be awarded winner take all at the final race. You have been in every qualifier, every elimination and now the final race. Not 1 or 2 races when you feel like it then come in at the final race and get the gold. Could you imagine Phelps just showing up at the final race and putting it on them? He could. Is that fair to all the other swimmers that worked their ass off at all the other races? I think not.

You really don't see the difference? Effort, consistency, and hope good finishes. How do you think it taints the National championship when a guy shows up twice a year and you hand him a National title for winning possibly 1 race? It's a joke at that point. I understand he maybe faster than me on that weekend at that track, but what about all those other weekends at those other tracks that maybe I was faster than him at? But he didn't show up, so I will never know. I know, just get faster at Barber. And if this goes in next year that is what I will do, show up at Barber and qualify for the GNF, then come back for the GNF and see what I can do. Become a Barber specialist! Because really that is all that matters any way. And the guy that won the regional. ..don't matter, because I beat him for the national.

Yes you are right....on a consistent basis and at as many tracks as you can make it to. You should be the champion of that class. Am as fast as Geoff May? No...but I put more effort in to that class than Geoff. So should Geoff borrow a bike and be the national champ in my class because he won 1 race that year in that class? NOPE
