I just bought a replacement TV for my mother. Hisense 55" from Costco. Better than the low end Samsung I was considering, according to people that are more in tune with this market segment. Not bad for $380.00. The best part was, by using my Costco Visa for payment, the warranty was extended to four years.

Been researching enough now to give myself a migraine. Fairly sure I'm not going to be happy unless I go with an OLED.....so the next good deal on a 65 or maybe 77 inch LG I see around B.F. I'll likely pull the trigger on....perhaps some 2019 leftovers will still be floating around that they want to clear out.

Do it. The first time I went from watching something that was 1080p to the same thing on 4k Dolby Vision I almost shit my pants. It was the first season of Altered Carbon. I couldn't believe the difference HDR made.

I'm looking forward to that part in particular.

I went back and forth between OLED and QLED last year and finally decided on the QLED. The OLED would be better for movies, but for sports and video games I wanted the brighter screen. Also for wall mounting, the Samsung works much better in my opinion. There’s a separate box for all your inputs and power so you only need to run 1 small wire through the wall (LG might do this too, not sure but it’s really nice). The LG is super thin on top which is cool but the bottom is thicker which seemed like it would look odd when mounted flush on the wall. I got Samsung’s no-gap wall mount and it’s about as thin as you can get for the price. I love the tv but wish I would have gone 75” so I’ll probably go for a bigger OLED for downstairs when the price is right.

I bought a Panasonic TH-50PZ750U back at the end of 2007. Awesome plasma with all the bells and whistles, and a pretty penny at the time. Soooper heavy too! Still going strong. I had a line on the same spec, but larger (65") screen version, used. Description said nothing wrong. I go take my blu-ray player with me to check it out. Damn thing has a huge screen defect. The lady said, "oh, I never noticed that." No, she knew about it, it just didn't bother her as all she did was watch game shows with it.

My search continues for another one.

If any of you lads are in the same boat as me I was just tinkering around with this calculator. I have a 65 in currently and as much as I want to size up to a 75 in according to my viewing distance (~8ft) from the TV this calculator says that a 65 is just about perfect to achieve the THX recommended viewing angle of 36 degrees.

According to the calculator I used, 75" is bigger than 65", and that's all you really need to know. :D

I actually did end with a 75" last year, but my viewing distance is 10-14 feet. 65 sounds pretty good for you. I just stood 8ft from mine and while it doesn't feel like "too much", it is getting close...

Yeah, the idea being that when your eyes have to start panning from one edge of the screen to the other to see everything in frame then its getting too large.

I’ve been eyeing a Samsung Q70T, or newer, QLED. Seems like a solid compromise between price and performance.

You whippersnappers will never know the thrill of fine-tuning the v-hold on the scrambled skinemax cable channel for a brief glimpse of a breast...

Had to honestly assess the amount of time I have still images on the screen and OLED is just too much of a concern for burn-in. No biggie, made my mind up on the 75 inch Sony X900H, bunch of places have the model on sale at the moment and its fairly well rated. It's one of 2 Sony TV's that they've announced as "PS5-ready". It's still waiting on a winter timeframe firmware upgrade that will bring the HDMI 2.1 support/4K@120/eARC.

  18. Prices have come down on the OLEDs since I got these.

For anyone that gets one, remember it MUST stay vertical. You can’t turn it sideways and slide it in the trunk/bed of your truck like you can regular TVs.

For anyone that has a Vizio TV where the video fails, but you still have audio ... look at the connector with between the power supply and the board to the right. The solder joints were failed on mine (common, per the Internet). I'm not good with a soldering iron, so I had a friend reflow them. TV video now works once again. There is a good YT vid that shows you the entire process.

My Sony X900H just got delivered yesterday....have to say I'm VERY pleased with it. 75 inches was a good choice rather than a 65 in OLED :D

It's the first HDR/Dolby Vision capable TV I've owned and that really makes all the difference in having picture/color that really pops. If you're looking at this model I definitely give it the thumbs up.

First time using bias lighting LEDs as well :)
