The FTR is not a bagger. Get your wires uncrowded. It will draw looks from the DO-RAG crowd, but it's not a bagger.
Curious, what is in your current stable? Or is it just spank bank Suzuki porn, like your wimminz?

I like this thread, actually looking for a new sport tourer with better legroom for my wife on the perch. Age creeping up on both of us, though she's 11 years younger than me, and she was talking about needing more room to the footpeg. This on my 2000 Ducati ST4.

My height (lack of) keeps me away from the adventure bikes though...

Pan America? That's what my wife and I use it as, a sport tourer with decent luggage and comfy ergos. I'd love for HD to come out with a GT version sporting a 17in front wheel and a bit sportier fairing but I'm not holding my breath.

    MT 10 here.

Awesome motor, lots of torque. With the full Akro, sounds awesome. handles great.

    Wheelie machine!

I'm in a bit of a quandary about adventure bikes. There is nothing wrong with them as such, but the general theme is taking over way too much.

I don't need "ground clearance" riding on the street (or even a dirt road), so all that standing on tiptoe and raising the center of gravity is pointless for what I need. But, take your "standard" bike, add about 6 inches of lift, put an odd Dakar-inspired front-end treatment on it and some scaffolding and bingo, you are in the hot "adventure/tourer" market.

It reminds me of the days of taking standards and making "cruisers" out of them ("Midnight Special", "LTD", etc.).

Don't hate them, and would consider a few, just a little bored with the pretense of some of them. Like factory off-road truck trim that just succeeds in making a street truck a less functional vehicle.

I prefer them for street riding for one simple thing - better vision over/through the cars. Same reason I prefer my truck over a car. I really like the RV - can see over everything but a big truck :D

Didn't you have a Duc Hyper at one point?

Still do. And a Multi. Haven't ridden either in like 3 years but they're still in the basement waiting.

I'm thinking of picking up a ST4 or ST3 as an all day two up sport tourer. Currently use a Monster that I'm fine with, but the Mrs. would like a backrest and a little more comfort for longer rides. The additional wind protection would be nice as well.

I run a Venture Rack on mine when needed too

Another voter for the Triumph Speed Twin/Thruxton R 1200. Fun torquey engine with badass looks. My Thruxton R is great fun if a bit hard on the wrists, but I will put higher clip ons this winter which should help a lot.

If going ST, skip the ST4 and that generation with the dual headlights, the 2nd gens with the updated headlight assembly have a bunch of quality of life improvements including a headlight that actually throws light. The ST3 motor is sweet, would love to have seen what it could do with a tune that didn’t cap the revs before it threatened the 4S’s top end.

I was looking hard at an Indian FTR earlier this year....But after a lot of reading/research/FB group interaction...it's not on my list anymore.

3 gal gas tank, zero storage, the seat is motocross style and you literally slide up onto the tank, radiator hose/water pump recall, broken clutch cables, top speed restricted at 130 mph, needs(or highly recommended) Lloydz tuning/exhaust, no QS/Auto-blip, etc.....

For the price of the Carbon model, you can get a helluvalot better performing bike with more comfort, better electronics, etc...IM'uneducated'O of course.

I'm now looking at a Ducati Diavel 1260 S. Seems those that have gone from the 1260 to the newest V4 Diavel platform, prefer the 1260 s (S models have the Ohlins package)

Great motor, electronics, 15k+ mile service interval....You can throw hard bags and windscreen on for somewhat comfortable touring..... even with the big rear tire it handles well by all accounts, and it's unique. Which is what I like personally.

What specific improvements? I rarely, if ever, ride at night, so the headlight is of little concern. I don't know much about this model line other than what I've read or been told. I have a 996, so I'm familiar with that engine. I've heard the ST3 is much smoother.

I didn't used to be a fan of the Diavel, but it has grown on me. It's like a V Rod that gets out of its own way and handles. Between the FTR and the Diavel, the Duc would get the nod from me as well.

Funny that you mentioned the V-Rod....In 2013, it was down to a '13 HD Night rod special or the Diavel, and I chose the HD...Sold the HD last year for damn near what I paid for it new 10 yrs ago. So now the Diavel is at the top of the list.

I have a Tuono for the street, so my biggest concern is having 2 somewhat similar bikes. Although the Tuono would obviously be better for more spritied, full leather suited type of Sunday rides.

It is quite funny you mentioned the V-Rod, I had a Street Rod back in '08. Seems a bunch of us have similar tastes in motorbikes.

Like Spang, I wasn't a fan of the Diavel at first. In the right color combination it looks kind of sharp, and if nothing else it's unique out there. Like a cruiser for sportbike people.

Diavel looks cool but I rode one once and I'll never forgive Ducati.
