I liked your line " Later that evening I was approached by several folks who graciously offered me the use of their bikes the following day. After weighing the positive and negative apects of doing such a thing, I finally decided that I'd take my buddy Tom up on his offer to borrow his GSXR 1000. I did this for a couple of reasons - first, Tom's a racer's racer - if something did happen and I crashed it, he'd understand and let me fix it without grief. Second, I knew the model - I'd ridden and raced a GSXR1K before I built the Honda, so I was aware of how it would react in most circumstances."

The bike was and is for sale at $6k. That's how much grief you would hav gotten if you wadded that thing.
