I'm thinking of picking up an ES-175. I played one about decades ago and I've been lusting for one ever since. Anyone know anything about these things? What to look for? What to avoid? etc.
Thick necks, hard to play if you are used to Fender or other guitars. Be prepared to spend coin on early issue models. I have a 1948 or 49 ES135, the 1950 and later 135's went to a thinner body style. But I can't speak to the 175's, sorry, except the Gibson "boat neck," which I have experienced on the older Gibson's I've played. May be the new ones have different necks?
I would not waste the cash on a Gibson. Look around for a nice Epiphone ES-175. Set it up well (or get a buddy to) and you'll be sittin' pretty.
Only mass produced guitars that are not near as much of a crapshoot are Ernie Ball Musicman and Paul Reed Smith.
They ain't.Most consistent mass-produced guitars made. Never thought I'd EVER like one,I now own 3. Retired the Gibson. Even the SE line, the truss rod is as sensitive as the made in USA ones.Easy to set up.Can't get that from an American Gibson or Fender.
I concur that the Axis line of guitars are indeed excellent. I will never part with mine and it's the last one I still own. Everything else got sold off.
