I think it’s pretty clear they didn’t look at the rules. Lol.

 

Racing is not a place where its better to ask for forgiveness than permission. It's so easy to email MA Tech and they are very helpful. A team that cheats because they thought it would be ok has no excuse.

Its kinda sad the talking points for this round are complaining about announcers and the DQ of a wildcard. I really wish the racing at the front of SBK was better. SS is the highlight of every weekend for me these days.

 

It takes ten seconds to find the rules online. As far as rules go, they’re actually pretty clear.

A lot of car sanctioning bodies require you to present a printed version of the rule book at tech. That way you have no excuse.

Furthermore, SBU sells / supplies / is a sponsorship partner with Westby and Attack. It would have been a simple phone call to Chuck or Richard if they needed further clarification.

 

I wonder if this whole fiasco would lead to Andrew Lee and Aussie Dave working out a scenario for andrew to finish the season on his bikes?

Seems on helluva lot easier than risking the SBU option. Granted their stuff is amazing and all but D.A. has got the logistics in place, known bikes, and a proven program of putting other racers on the grid.

 

Wonder if any will have a response to this?

 

On the TrackDaz post race Youtube interview with Stanboli, Rich said they asked him before the race if he was okay with alternate firmware because the company did not have the specified software for the Kawasaki ready to go. He said the only one they had available in time was firmware with sector (corner) mapping and he was fine with it since he has sector mapping in his bikes. But after Lee showed some speed on Friday, one of the other teams raised an issue. He didn’t understand why the transmission was an issue since it’s a cassette transmission and there should be a stock one you could throw in but he didn’t have the details on why that was a showstopper.

 

Okay...so why are you so quick to want to slam the door on people putting up thousands of dollars on a technicality when there is no advantage gained?

Following an organizations rules isn’t a hard concept. These aren’t grey area things either, it’s spelled out pretty well.

 

Your opinion that theres no advantage to those parts is wrong, especially with the gearbox. Based on the limited info we have Id guess the gearbox is probably worth a few tenths right out of the box, which is a lot over race distance. Who knows what the ECU is worth... but if it was good for the championship, MA would have homologated that ECU/firmware instead.

Aside from that, this doesn't really address my statement about the racing. There's no way in hell SBU and Andrew Lee was going to impact the race at the front. They weren't going to run up there with any cheater bike. They dont have the expertise, experience, or talent at the moment. If it was easy to podium in SBK, everyone would do it. As you can tell from the results all year, its not easy.

The door wasn't slammed. The door has been open that much all year long for everyone that wants to enter. Its not MA's fault SBU didn't read the rules about how big the door is.

 

So if a team shows up with last year's motogp bike, we should let them race in superbike. Eff the rules.
