I've done it engines and transmissions with great success. You can replace any gaskets or filters you like before you drop it in. Set it and forget it.

Everyone has different experience but from owning 4.7 and working on them for many years I wouldn’t hesitate to own another one. Dealership I worked at was in the area where people love Jeeps and naturally we sold a lot of them, why am I saying this is because in all those years I only replaced 2 4.7 motors due customer negligence! We did a lot of heads due to issue during manufacturing but hey all brands have their own issues!

Ehh, I would probably fix that one if that’s all that’s wrong. We did a couple of them back in January. The heads are expensive to have done due to shitty valve seats that have issues. All decent head shops replace them. Seems like they were both in the $2500 range all said and done. For the complete job, timing set and all out the door. Not just the head repair.

A Jasper reman is a decent choice, supply issues have made them a bit of a wait though but for some the 3 year/100k warranty make it worth it. We sell quite a few with very few issues.

For the gearheads unfamiliar with the 4.7 engine...

The HO has this in addition...

Started talkin' to Jeep and another independent service garage today. Jeep is working up an updated estimate so I can have a list of parts/labor from which to work or, if it's not outrageously priced, have them perform. Apparently, their first estimate from two months ago went AWOL and didn't include head gaskets. Can't blame 'em, I balked at the ~$2600 total.

PowertrainProductInc's warranty...the "5 year" is included in the engine price.

    The engine is ~$3600.
An install kit is another $400...

I'm concerned about the components not being on par with OEM in both the install kit and the engine itself.

The Jeep ain't worth $4000 due to underbody salt-belt corrosion issues and incidental scrapes/gouges from off-roading that may have contributed to the festering. If I could do a full-body restomod, I would...no time for that.

Chasing a new vehicle purchase is just that, chasing.
Looking at a Ridgeline Black Edition, a Mazda 3 Hatchback Turbo and a "sold order" F350 XL Godzilla dually.
The sold order is currently out of the question and I wouldn't buy one any other way. It's an option supply issue, 4.30 limited slip and spray-in bed liner are MIA...post-purchase aftermarket installation is cost prohibitive by comparison, among other considerations.
Honda's covid gremlins have wreaked hell on Ridgeline build quality. Thank you, Alabama.
Mazdas are flyin' off the delivery trucks straight into the hands of happy new owners. I just want a test drive so I can determine if I want to be one of those happy new owners.
