I wish all you Geniuses would go back to "fixing" US road racing, versus something most people here seem to hate.*

IT'S TIME TO TAKE BACK THE WERA BBS!

Internet lore is already claiming that Ryan lobbied to add an upright support bar in the cage going to the roofline above the driver, a few years ago. The claim is, this is probably what saved him from being crushed. I've done a little google-ing, but not much. Can't confirm. Makes for an interesting story, I guess.

I'd say re-positioning the driver to more center of the cage probably helped, as well.

His soon to be ex-wife had a video of him walking out of the hospital with the kids. Also, for whatever reason they are separating, at least they seem to be very civil.

Here is a bar (yellow) Ryan Newman had lobbied NASCAR to put in the current cars. Likely saved Corey Lajoie big time. Most forget that Ryan has a BSc Mech Eng. degree from Purdue.

Also, when I look at these cages, I immediately think of the arguments about making these cars "production based". Nope. You can't fit that much safety in a car that started off as a street car. You'd get people killed and it won't make the show any better. As was pointed out elsewhere, there was an Aston Martin driver killed at the 24hr of LeMans 6 years ago in a smaller impact and about 3 years ago, one of the factory Bentley drivers crashed at Lime Rock, was in a coma, and no updates have been released from the family since. Again, a smaller impact. Both cars were production based and being factory race programs, were built to a top notch level.

At the very least, the deaths of Ayrton Senna and Dale Earnhardt were not in vain. Lessons learned from both have saved A LOT of drivers.

This is unbelievable to me. 48 hours ago, the wreck was bad enough that it was thought he might be dead. Then some vague wording about non life threating....today he WALKS out of the hospital.. holy shit.
