Facebook will now ban content that praises or supports white nationalism and separatism. And when users try to post or search explicit white nationalist or separatist content, they will be redirected to the website for Life After Hate, an advocacy and support organization that strives to help people transition away from hate groups. Life After Hate was founded by former white supremacists.

“If people are exploring this movement, we want to connect them with folks that will be able to provide support offline,” Fishman told Motherboard. “This is the kind of work that we think is part of a comprehensive program to take this sort of movement on.”

 

Still trying to figure out what a white nationalist is. White separatist is easy that is just a white dumbass.

 

I think this is a slippery slope for facebook, if they censor then they are accepting responsibility for the content for the entire platform. This could open them up for slander/libel suits like Cook's BS. As it is now, they have no control over the content and therefore you can't sue them for any damages. Can I get one of the beebs yeller furraris to confirm?

True but there might be a difference as in changing the speech. Porn is a banned as a whole and hate speech isn't defined as a crime??? I don't, I drank a beer since I last read the article and don't have the energy to draw any diagrams with the angle of attack.

 

I'm not sure what you just said but at the lower end of the range for each, they are both subjective and tricky to define. As someone once said, "I know it when I see it."

FB censors folks all the time. A lot of people on my friends list are regularly in FB Jail for posts they think are too gay-edgy.

Huh, ya don't say? I really don't know much about the FB scene other than they seem to pick winning camps. My brother was pushing FB to promote business, and after about a month I decided it wasn't for me. During that brief stint a cousin was pissed that OMB got first pick in the draft. He went on a rant, threatening a young kid that I knew. It didn't work out well in the long run for him, and that part of the family won't speak to me. So that's actually a win.

 

They already censor what they consider hate speech. Hell I got a ban for a picture of Hitlers dating profile. You get no say in it and there's no recourse.

The issue is that they can't claim non-responsibility for content
(and thus avoid lawsuits) while moderating and curating content.
Either you control content or you don't, you can't have it both ways.
