It was great fun opening a valve in 4MMR on the USS Kitty Hawk and feeling 85000 tons+ accelerate! (granted, in synchronicity with three other guys with three other valves in three other engine rooms, but, still)

The flight deck guys (aka "passengers") get all the coverage, but without the pit snipes, they'd never get anywhere, and they wouldn't have steam to operate the cats.
