I am a native American English speaker. I also took 4 years of high school Spanish and 2 semesters of college French. I am no longer even slightly fluent in either. I also know a smattering of Yupik Eskimo words and phrases.

    What do you know?

You're no longer fluent in English? I mean...sometimes I have a hard time understanding you, but I kept thinking that was just me.

Can ya speak Downeastah, or just the southern dialect of Beantownian? ;)

Used to speak Drunkenese. Can’t do that anymore.

I’m also familiar with Cuntenese, in fact there was a lot of it spoken to me last night. It’s a dialect of Gaslightian, so you know it’s an Orwellian language. ;)

If you wave your arms around and shout loudly Johnny Foreigner will eventually understand you.

A word or two in Welsh, including this gem

    Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

    Barely speak English anymore.

used to be passable in German and a bit of French and could get the basics of Portuguese. Now, not.

not a lick of Spanish. I just can’t “get it” much beyond Dos cervezas, por favor and no mas pantalones.

Learned some German at like 6-7 years old (Dad spoke it so Mom thought it'd be cool - don't ever remember him helping me a bit with it), Latin 7/8/9 grade plus two years summer school in it, French junior and senior years. Evelyne speaks it but we never ever actually practice. I was still truly surprised at how much I could understand in Germany and Luxembourg (French mainly there). Way more than expected - but not sure if it was the schooling, reading a ton, or speaking American with how much it's taken in of other languages.

I try to pickup as many words as I can in each of the countries I visit, except Asian countries. I can't even say HI in Thai and I've been there like a thousand times. Do a decent job of smashing Spanish, French and Italian. Trying to pick up more Italian. My ex wife married me because I claimed to know tagalog.
