Meh. Its pretty well been established that Dani doesn't and never will hold a candle to Rossi either on or off the track. He will never achieve the level that Rossi is at. Honestly, who cares. Rossi is Rossi.
But to disparage Dani for his win total during arguably one of the most competitive times in the premier class while remaining somewhat competitive and not being a crasher is kind of foolish.

Besides if Honda wants to keep him they must see the value - at least they know exactly what they are getting with him. The other thing to keep in mind is since MM is winning championships for Honda it does take some of the pressure and expectations off of Dani. Dani is fortunate that MM is providing him some cover in this regard. He better pray that MM doesn't leave for KTM.

Now, if Honda didn't have MM or if MM wasn't winning championships then perhaps Honda would be more inclined to search for a Dani replacement but under the current circumstance Honda would be crazy to replace Dani. I'm sure if you asked the Honda inner circle that they would tell you Dani is doing everything they pay him for.

The other thing is, never say never. Its not completely out of the realm of possibilities for Dani to win a championship. He certainly is good enough. He certainly has a good bike. He certainly has a good team. He just needs a little help along the way. Its very possible.

Eddie Lawson's lack of personality didn't seem to be a turnoff to the manufacturers, teams, or sponsors. Of course, wins, championships, and development skills go a long way. And as far as "years in purgatory" goes, his time of Cagiva certainly rates as more trying and difficult in terms of the work than Rossi's time at Ducati, and Lawson actually won a race during that stint.
I hope VR46 sticks around competitively and keeps MM93 on his toes. It's good theatre for the fans and incentive for each against the other.

 

How many world championships in MotoGP have been won with Dani as a teammate? 7 or 8, maybe? Maybe that is why they keep him, so his team mate will bring in another championship to Honda.

 

Good point. It seems that he has a certain role. It might not have been the case at the start of his GP career but now he has cemented his status as the Barichelo of motogp, a perfect team mate for a champion.
