Do you have rocks in your head? Nobody is telling these people what you're saying. EVERY respected source a young person is seeing throughout their education experience is telling them to go to college. Our society is telling them they have to go to college. The ENTIRE SYSTEM is set up to encourage it. People who don't go to college are looked down upon across the board. I work for a very large company and I can't even look at a resume that doesn't come with a degree - HR culls them before they get to my desk, and this is for an entry level sales job. THAT is what you're up against with your stupid fucking assumptions and "easy fixes". Two generations now have been totally brainwashed by the government, at the behest of the education system, to convince them that their only path to success is to get this degree, damn the cost. Now we live in a nation that has shipped it's manufacturing force overseas in the name of increased profit margin and pushed focus towards some non-existent white collar middle management workforce. All the kids that used to have honest career paths in blue collar jobs wind up in the exact scenario you refused to read above.

How old are you? What's tuition now vs when you went?

Yep nephew wants to be an anesthesiology tech, says pay is great and the degree is 2 years. Or pro soccer  though realistically he does have some chance on that (but common sense says the odds are low)

For every whiner or antifa basement dweller the is 5-10 great kids. They just don't make the news as they can take care of themselves and realize Tide goes in the washer.

    Beginning of time......

Though salaries were also a LOT lower now. You can make more at McD than I lived on in college by a lot.

But you are going down a path that I have herd <pun intended> since when I was in school. Lots of reasons stuff doesn't work but that does not mean impossible. I could name a lot of ways you can go. Further the internet has made it easier to find scholarships and other aid. Or you can be lazy and either not try or run up monster debt. That is still not my problem, it is their poor choice.

Private enterprise, I have no problem paying him to keep them refrigerated.

The g, on the other hand, would charge us triple, and still fuck us....

And, IF the grocery fucks enough people, we quit going, and change grocery stores.

No can do with the gov and the idiots using them to fuck us.

Something else I feel the need to point out - at no point during the college app process, loan app process, etc, does anyone really point out what the total cost and eventual payment is going to be. It's not like when you buy a car or a house and you agree to 60 payments of $400 or something. You just calculate tuition and expenses for the year, request that much money, and it gets sent to the school. It's a very vague, misleading process, and I believe intentionally designed to prevent people from getting a good hard look at exactly what they're getting in to.

    Every source?

This is why you are called names.

This source right here has plenty of factual arguments saying otherwise. There are tons of sources out there saying college isn't necessary for everyone. If you're too stupid to see them the issue is yours.

If you look down upon people without a degree you even more of an idiot than I initially thought.

Your companies policy is idiotic and doesn't in any way mean a degree is necessary outside of your company. Yes, there are other companies just as stupid. So what.

If the last couple of generations had actually been brainwashed then you wouldn't have so many from those generations telling you that you are wrong. You wouldn't have any blue collar work being done. However those people are pointing and laughing at you and things are being built and fixed by millions of people every single day...

Not sure what you're saying here. You ARE paying him to keep them refrigerated, but he didn't do that. The dungeon dwellers would say this is somehow your fault and that when you get home and learn that you bought some nasty rotten eggs, your only recourse is to "learn your lesson" and do better next time you buy eggs. The problem is that when you scale that up to the level of a $60k college degree, you're probably not going to get a "next time" to apply your lesson to. So instead you go aggro, join antifa, and elect a socialist.

    Back to basic math.

A semesters costs amount A. The chosen degree takes B number of semesters going full time. A times B equals total cost.

Just because you couldn't figure it out doesn't mean the information isn't there...

Mostly we are ignoring your analogy because it doesn't work for the student loans.

To do it properly it's like this - you bought a dozen eggs. Took them home and made a cheese omelet. Then you realize that just because you put the cheese inside of eggs you're still lactose intolerant. You then blame the grocery store for having the shits.

Students got what the paid for. Just as the eggs above. It's what happens after that you're blaming on the wrong people.

The primary source for information about college comes through the education system and government. I don't know how I can be any more clear than that.

The only mainstream source I ever see talked about that does not encourage college is Mike Rowe's foundation and a few trade school type things that have mostly died out due to lack of government funding after the rules changed to exclude for-profit schools.

My company's policy is idiotic, but it's extremely common in today's business world. Again, something you are blind to and refuse to accept as reality, which has skewed your understanding of the topic.

Very few people in here are from the generations I'm referring to. Most of the guys I'm arguing with here are what, roughly 50+? There is a significant lack of skilled and unskilled labor. We've talked about it on here several times The skilled workforce is getting old and is getting to the point that they can almost charge whatever they want to do work because there are so few people doing it.

Yeah, that wasn't our experience at all either. We had a really clear idea of costs upfront, which is why he chose the one school over the other.
Maybe, just maybe, folks aren't asking the right questions?
I highly doubt institutions are intentionally deceiving prospective enrollees, but I may be wrong there. All the schools we spoke with were very forthcoming with regards to costs.

This is based on what, your one semester you did? Electives, books, labs, available class schedules, tuition increases, INTEREST RATES, REPAYMENT SCHEDULES, market changes affecting available jobs and salaries when you graduate four or five years down the road.

So wait, the education system promotes itself? Say it ain't so!!!!

I see ads from IBEW and I don't watch commercials. Rowe is doing great as well and see stuff from/by him all over social media.

Yes there are a lot fo companies that do what you're saying - so what? Hell even better, the idiots with basket weaving degrees should be doing great since those same companies will hire them. Not like they want a specific degree for a lot of jobs, they take any degree.

Most of the people here have kids who are the generations you're talking about. I've got a grandson who graduated college, got a job not involved with his degree and is paying off his student loans. He is targeting the higher rates first, he is driving a used car although he could get a loan for new, he just moved back in with his parents for a few so he can pay things down quicker but has been renting in college level dive joints all along instead of blowing money on higher rent. Oh yeah, he's also at the same time saving cash for a downpayment on a house. So don't tell me how brainwashed the millenials are or any other bullshit because once again, you are wrong.

I am not the one who doesn't understand the topic. You're the one so wrapped up in your own little world of the man keeping you down you can't see reality.

They have to be up front with costs, that's how you know how much to borrow from the man :D

I'm speaking more to the loans and repayment plans. It's not incredibly difficult to add up costs, but your repayment schedule is vague. They also do this thing where they base your payment on your income, and lots of people wind up paying less per month than the interest that accrues, so their balance actually goes up. It's NOTHING like buying a car or a house. If it were, I'd wager college enrollment would drop by at least 30-50%.

No, this is based on the reality of people who have gone and gotten all sorts of degrees. Some chose wisely, some chose unwisely, I pay attention to all of them... You should try that ;)
