I think that's THE biggest irony in club racing, and it's often missed even by the people who are creating said irony.

When I first started, I rode an FZR400 superbike and used $13 a gallon gas (same stuff is about $20/gal today).

After that, I got on a bone-stock Aprillia Cup bike running wawa pump gas, making about 20 less HP. By the end of that year, I was going faster on the Cup bike than I ever did on the 400.

I'm all for reducing any toxins for everyone involved, lord knows we don't need any more of those but as stated enforcing this would take allot of time and effort and you would still have the cheaters (Hey where's Brad?)

The solution is simple: Green motorcycle racing that would benefit mankind. Any form of motivation by an alternate energy source such as electric (charging source must be green also) , 100% bio diesel derived from veggie oil or soybeans etc (near zero emmision). Think of the positive spin this would put on mtc racing.

Nothin'. I'm good. As I mentioned above, I was citing the dyno as an alternative to the fuel test (given LRRS' circumstances and the previous posts). You jumped in and started the heated dyno talk.

..and then show up using something else but show the receipt for the season's worth of fuel purchased?

to help contain cheating, only the maximum amount possibly used per event could be sold which means there would also have to be a minimum purchase. otherwise, we could buy our season's allotment and dump it into our other toys and show up with whatever the hell(better) sunoco we want for any lrrs event. aside from that, it can be had cheaper elsewhere. why should we have to buy it there? if it's a cost cutting measure <cough-bullshit> we should be allowed to source our own supplies.

without testing equipment, it's a non-rule. who's gonna pay for that?

It's all bullshit at the point you say it's about reducing the cost of racing. If you want to reduce the cost of racing then sit at home and watch other people do it on TV. That's how you reduce the cost of racing. Everyone else that isn't buying 20 dollar a gallon fuel any longer will take that money and buy another set of tires or some other item they could have been spending the money on before but had to spend it on fuel.

All the rest of the whining and bitching about fuel cost is just that whining.

not sure if you're agreeing or i wasn't clear enough.
what i meant by "if it's a cost cutting measure <cough-bullshit> we should be allowed to source our own supplies." is that whatever fuel they are selling at whatever price, i can get it cheaper.

The primary reason for this change at LRRS, as stated by Jerry Wood, is to get rid of the toxic and oxygenated fuels . He didn't go into how exactly they would test for and enforce it. I would think it would be something along the lines of testing the top 5 and perhaps random testing. He did state that the penalties would be rather severe for those caught cheating. Most of our guys do a good job of policing each other where other rules are concerned, ie.: no alcohol consumption on the property during the race day, no loose dogs, no speeding in the paddock, no tolerance for theft. Only two sources will be allowed, the Sunoco pump gas at the track, and gas from one pump at a filling station near the track. There is always a dyno at the track, but I don't know if that will come into play in any way.
Nothing will stop cheating 100%, there's always a few rule-breakers, but I think compliance will be very high on this one.
The money issue is only secondary. I'll see if I can get more info from JW.

I know that unleaded fuels have toxins. In the state (Republic) of California, gasoline is recognized as a carcinogen. One toxin gets replaced with another.

Make a reasonable standard, inform the fuel companies to submit the dielectric information for each fuel that would fit the standard. Publish a list, test for reasonable compliance.

As for reducing the cost of racing, track days are the alternative.

wouldn't it be easier to disallow those "toxic" fuels? it's pretty easy to know when someone's using them...just open the can and everyone in the paddock knows it.
ahhh, but again, whatever fuel they are selling at whatever price, it can be had cheaper. forcing the racer to buy a product at someone else's prices is in whose interest?

i'll be quiet now as the personal debate i've had with myself about racing there has been decided by reasons of principle.

i've always heard, "if you aint cheatin', then you don't wanna win bad enough!" Suzuki Cup dyno, 4th gear pulls, you figure it out...

We have national horsepower limits up here and they DO NOT curb the cheating.

Brett McCormick got screwed out of a win in Calgary because his bike ran out of gas on the dyno so he DNF'd after he destroyed the field (15 y/o just got signed to factory kawi). There are switchable ECU's these days, ways of clearing a map before a dyno run etc. We are looking at changing our regional rulebook to get rid of the dyno since it's a waste of money.

Only upside is at the nationals dyno tuning/dyno pulls is included in the race entry fees...

There is only one way to eliminate cheating 100% and that is to eliminate rules. Ha ha that would be great, no rules to break means no rule breakers, yeah. Ban the freakin jet pack gas. If the fast guys can spend that money somewhere else and still be fast guys they will. Any slow guy who's dumb enough to spend $20 for a gallon of gas in the vain and futile hope it'll make them a fast guy rather than learning how to ride, er, let 'em they won't be around for long anyway.
