Hey, I think humans are the lowest form of species on the planet. I just try to live up to the reputation.
Well I'm back in SC. Guess what I left in the freezer in Ohio... Oh well told my uncle to eat him. Hope he enjoy it.
It's Quite Simple JIMBO We have a terrific show for you today. We're gonna kill some Elk and we're gonna kill some Mountain Goats. Now, the new law passed by Colorado legislature, which Ned and I call pussy law number FOUR -- states that we can no longer kill animals in defense. In other words, our old line of 'It's coming right for us' NED It's coming right for us. JIMBO -- No longer works. So now, we only kill animals to quote: "thin out their numbers". If we don't hunt, then these animals will grow too big in number and they won't have enough food. So you see? We have to kill animals or else they'll die. JIMBO Uhh... So roll the tape. We see a video image of Jimbo and Ned in full hunting gear. JIMBO (V.O.) Here we are up at Schaeffer's Crossing, looking for some animals. Now we cut in to the video taped Jimbo and Ned. JIMBO Lookie there, Ned! There's some deers!! A delicate grouping of five deer stand around eating grass. JIMBO Quick, Ned! THIN OUT THEIR NUMBERS!!! NED THIN OUT THEIR NUMBERS! Ned takes out his flame thrower and barbecues all five of them. Their little deer skeletons fall to the ground. JIMBO Good work, Ned! Now they won't starve! Back to the set. The boys are horrified. JIMBO That sure was a great hunting trip. We saved those deer from extinction. NED We're environmentalists.
I was in mental shock when I took it....took to remind me of how I felt that minute. I don't know if that makes any sense.
Well, just as Putter said, we don't have to hunt because we can afford to buy our food. However just like we grow, and preserve, most of our own food, we hunt for the very same reason. No antibiotics, leaner meat, and no worries about contamination as we do all the processing ourselves. We are very selective in the animals we take and only take what we need. One can really appreciate the food you eat when you know effort it takes to get it there. Dawn
I grew up hunting and fishing with my Dad. I learned how to live in case something bad happened. I'm not talking war, but getting stranded sucks and there were a few times I had to bug out of a bad situation (wrong place, wrong time, wrong people) where it got me through. Hunting and gathering, plus having a hobby garden with my father in law has taught me many useful things that simply going ton grocery never would. When we finish the new house, step 2 is an orchard. I have to agree, most things are much better when you have put your time and labor into it. That being said, coyotes and geese. Filthy critters. But the trading posts still give me 15 bucks a head and 2.50 a goose.
A couple of years ago I was training a rookie and saw a dead squirrel in a parking lot. It was a slow day and we got some GI Joe looking action figures and posed them with it, like they just made a huge kill. We laughed our asses off. I need to find those pics.
Good luck on the orchard. We have a pear tree and several apple trees too. If you keep the apple trees trimmed and the apples that fall to the ground picked up (very important), you shouldn't have too many problems with bugs. Depending on the spring, we may have issues with apple scab, but always have more than enough unaffected apples to meet our needs. The deer don't mind what the apples look like. As far as the garden goes... We always plan enough for us, others and the wildlife. Dawn
