How many bikes have you gone through?

Discussion in 'General' started by zippytech, Jan 20, 2012.

  1. Once a Wanker..

Once a Wanker.. Always a Wanker!

I know what you mean! I always have a hard time knowing what the rules are for this kind of thing. Kind of like counting the girls in your life - depends on the definition a person uses.

Like, do I get to count the bikes I bought for the girlfriend/ wife? And how about my kids bikes? I rode most of them as much or more than they did. I always told my kids that the bikes were mine, and they better be good if they want me to let them ride them.

Can I count the bikes a mfg. 'loaned' to me to race? Even if I did have to send back the frame & motor #'s. How about salvage, project & parts bikes? Some of them ran, and I rode some of them. How complete do the parts of several in my basement have to be to count as one? Did/do I have to have a title or mso for it to count? Then there are the bikes I bought for my friends, at an auction, or off of Craigslist or Ebay; I've ridden most of them at least a few times while in my possession. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the ones that I never saw, but signed a bill of sale for, for a good friend, so he could get a title. (Positive that they were no stolen, seriously!) Do bikes I've owned twice count as 1 or 2? (I recently bought back my 1981 YZ250.)

The one that bothers me the most, though, is the title I have, in my name, for a bike I have absolutely no recollection of. Baffles me to this day!

So, what are the rules here?:Pop::up:

Some other guy posted his skateboard and plastic models. Have at it. It's for fun. If you had, say, a Vincent Black Shadow frame in the garage, list that. If you had a fender from a 77 Hondaka, not so much.;)
My rule was, if I traded money, favors, or parts for it and it was in my garage, it's mine.

    ^ Nice

Thinking about this thread brings me back to the bikes I really regret getting rid of. It's tough having the constant desire to check out different rides, since it's not feasible to keep a Barber collection of bikes around.

    Biggest regrets having sold-

1992 VX800 (First 'brand new' bike I ever bought)

    1995 GSXR 750 (Last of the cradle-frames)

1999 VTR1000 Superhawk (nicest street-powerband of any bike I've ever owned)

1984 RZ350 KR Yellow with 2000 original miles (NEVER should have sold that )

2002 MH900e - picked it up from a guy in Utah and road the bejeezus out of it for a season. I had a guy give me sh*t on a Sunday ride once for riding it, saying it belonged in a museum and not with somebody who didn't respect it as art - HA!

2006 Thruxton (in blue - beautiful bike and actually made in Hinckley, not like the new ones from Thailand)

There's a few more in there, but I gotta say as much as I enjoyed the race-reps of 1990's I don't miss servicing the carburetors ;)

I've been thru a bazillion in the last 30 years, but for whatever reason I've slowed down a bit (my last new bike was my 04 R1, still in the garage).

I do wish that I had two of my old bikes....my old Rupp mini bike, and my Bultaco 250.
