.....over the night sky and this is what is contained within that space. Truly incredible. Can't wait to see what JWST is going to bring us over the next few decades......
More full-resolution, uncompressed images are slated to be released tomorrow beginning at 10:30am eastern and will be posted here: https://webbtelescope.org/news/first-images
The idea of infinite galaxies, infinite planets and infinite @Metalhead s is truly mind-boggling, but we seem to be approaching that realization.
There's something about scientists (and engineers for that matter) who get a little bit of fame. They've spent the better part of their life living in the shadows they just can't handle the bright lights. Think about it, Sagan, Misu Cockatoo, Bill Nye (a faker by the way), Fauci, It's like they're moths to the flame. Hey, enjoy your 15 minutes then shut up and go away.
Note that it's a fucking sad state of affair when society prefers their Kim Ks over learned people with some substance & intelligence....
From Neil DeGrasse Tyson FB page : "Notice that many distort into arcs. These are distant galaxies that reveal the curvature of spacetime caused by the gravity of a cluster of galaxies in image's center." Mindblowing stuff !
Really cool . Gonna be honest I really don’t understand how we are looking back in time. If someone can explain that to me it will be much appreciated.
Light takes time to reach our eyes or observation equipment. This image is 4.5 billion light years away, which means the light left the objects 4.5 billion years ago and is just now reaching us. We are seeing this snapshot as it existed 4.5 billion years ago. To see what is currently going on in this area, we would have to wait another 4.5 billion years. Similarly, when we see the sun with our eyes, we are seeing the sun as it was 8 minutes ago.
That light left those stars billions of years ago. Like the time between a lightning strikes flash and the sound. You are hearing history because the strike had already happened. Multiply that by a factor of trillions and more.
