How is paying for referrals illegal? How does the government determine the tests were unnecessary? Sounds like this guy got fucked for what we all know is a common practice. Those are some badass cars. I wonder if they'll let him drive the work van at Club Fed?

Look up the Anti-Kickback Statute and the Stark Law. I live and breath this stuff daily. Industry experts will determine if the tests are necessary. Most of the time this stuff arises through a disgruntled employee (who will likely get a cut of the amount recovered by the gov't). While it may be common practice, health care costs are a hot button topic nationally and thus the DOJ will take a hard-stance approach to fraudulent schemes overbilling through federally funded government health insurance entities.

Look at your next medical bill.....
Hospital (or Doctor, Dentist, lab, etc) "charges" 1000X
Insurance has an agreed upon value of..............400X, of which they pay 200X, sticking you with a bill of 200X (Plus your co-pay of 50X)

What the hell happened to the other 600X? Was it just bogus to inflate the bill? If so, how different is that from this case? Do the hospitals then tax deduct the 600X as a non-payment loss? Isn't that a sham too?

Damn. I could have had a GT 500 in 1972 for about $1250. Dad was trying to get me to look at the 4 door '63 Galaxy sitting next to a green one. Car probably would have killed me.
