Hanging a heavy mirror on lath and plaster walls

    Good idea.

    Another possibility, find a carpenter and get a stand built.

    A straight pin alone can support 5lbs in 1/2" sheet rock. Just sayin. I'd get the biggest ook they have and go with that if it has a wire.. I've hung a lot of heavy mirrors on plaster for customers who were afraid to do it themselves.

    My sister was a cabinet maker 20 years ago. We might have this discussion. Removes all doubt.

    Put a decorative cleat on the floor and a bumper against the wall and lean that gargoyle at a slight angle and be done with it.

    Use the sticky black tar-like adhesive then.

    I've hung and removed big mirrors and used the black glue and had to remove them that used the black glue. You'd be shocked how strong that stuff holds.
