Sounds like a good plan. Lets implement it here.
On a serious note, sorry about your friend. Cancer sucks!

I don't know how many times I've told people to becareful what you wish for.

Hope your friend seeks other medical advice.

My aunt moved back to BC and got a rude awakening about Canada’s healthcare system when she developed breast cancer. She came back down here and stayed with me to get it taken care of because she was told they wouldn’t do anything for the next six months.

Translation: Lets let it move to her lungs, claim she's beyond repair and let her die.
Again, sounds like a great healthcare plan.
Listen, socialists are historically evil. View them like an insurance policy. They take your money and try to give very little back, while the CEO buys a yacht and a jet. What's the best way to not give any back? You not being there.

If you think healthcare is expensive now, just wait 'til it's free!

If you are making regular payments to the best of your ability... who the f*** cares?
If youre over 50 and care about your credit score... umm, you aint doing it right!
I want to be 95 and bounce the post dated check to the crematory! :D
Also its real easy to read a credit report thats been dinged by medical debt.
Its not like you can't walk into a hospital and get urgent care if needed.

If you factor in the additional income taxes that you would end up paying it does not look nearly as good...

Can't see it being any more than what I'm paying now on top of current taxes. The insurance without factoring in the deductible is already 15% or so.

I am not sure of the exact breakdown. You very well may be correct. I know that when I moved from Canada to the US the tax man took about $1000 less per month. But some were throwing around the word "free" when referring to Canadian health care and if it is looked at objectively it really is not.
All I know is that in the US, the more the government tries to "fix" health care the shittier it gets...

And, in your case, you might be correct OR it may work out to be about the same after the income tax bump, the difference though will be that dreaded wait when you get bad news and the system is backlogged.

I mean, there are plenty of stories out there on that subject.

My moms boyfriend has two bad knees. He is deteriorated to the point that he’s basically immobile since September. Took two months just to be able to see a specialist who at that point told him it’ll be a year to 18 months before he’ll have the surgery.

I told him I should have put two bullets in his knees and he’d be walking by now.

I’ve said this before. Canadian health system is only good for immediate and serious health issues. Got a heart attack? No worries, as long as we get to you in time.

Ex’es uncle went in to do a stress test, nurse looked at the numbers, called the doc, he looked at it and said “you’re heading straight to the hospital....” 3 days later he had a quadruple bypass surgery. 7 or 8 days in hospital, surgery, paid 0 for it.

Other than that we don’t have enough doctors, hospitals are over crowded, not enough of anything. Hell I’ve been trying for 2 months to get a hold of my doc...they are so busy they don’t even pick up the phone anymore.
