Does anybody out west still run the old gen? If so, any info on tires and pressures? Much appreciated.
I'm not currently racing but the old-gen setup out here was Dunlop GT-501's @ ~28-29R/29-30F cold.... But ask the Dunlop folks at the track what they recommend. Sorry I haven't answered your PM yet, tiggen... -jim
Others ignitions are allowed. I just sell the one that has the best reputation. Others are cheap, fail frequently, and are really poorly made. Plug and play is legal in the rules. The cheapest and illegal way is to put a pregen cdi in there. That requires modification to the stock wiring harness which isn't allowed and is therefore illegal. Right Dwayne Dustin: Tire wise a lot of the AFM guys out here run the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsas in an SC-01 compound. They are super sticky and last awhile with proper suspension setup and air pressure. XXX128 makes the best power fuel wise Chains and sprockets: you can run a 428 setup from Sprocket Specialists which is popular out here Front suspension: Sling shot racing makes pre load adjusters that sell for $99. Spears Enterprises sells the intimidator and a captive wheel spacer kit Rear: Penske for height adjustable and peformance. RPM if you want a cheap yet reliable 3 way. Ohlins has a bad rep out here for sending out empty shocks to the 250 guys. Brake lines: Galfer, Speigler, HEL pick your posion they are all good. Rear sets: There is nothing wrong with the wc's. Sportisi Moto and Sato also sell fully adjustable rearsets. Steering damper: Not needed on the 250 but required per wera rules. Gerry rig a GSXR damper. There are photos out there. Brakes: Vesrah was the best pad. But I think the new EBC Power Pro Series may have taken the crown. If you brake a lot and hard get an extra front disk. We had a couple disks out here warp from heavy braking which the rotor was not designed for. On body work DB windscreens are legal. Per the unlimited bodywork restriction. let me think awhile I will have more.
You have left out one of the best and low cost shop options. The LE rebuild of the stocker w/remote reservoir. Jim Lindemann is the best and this can be seen on the Carry Andrews' tuned 250 in the current RRW. Jim states that the internals from some of the big name after market shocks aren't all they a reputed to be and that in many instances the stocker when rebuilt is the best option.
The stock shock is awesome. Stroud ran the piss out of it on his bike before selling it. Peter runs the ohlins and spencer is on a penske (or somethin else) I think.
Any line on decent aftermarket or OEM adjustable levers? It looks like the EX500 adjustable OEM brake lever will bolt right up to the pre-08 models, but not the EX250-J. I don't need the billet bling-bling just a simple lever that I can adjust. I'm hoping to find cheap OEM type lever for around $15-$25. Eye balling the lever on my KLR650 looks like it may be close. I'll try to fit this afternoon.
I Have cycle control on my bike. The company seems to not be running smooth lately. Pazzo is the most available. I can get some from overseas for under $100. Dustin are you talking about the set on david gays bike? I sent him those as a perk. They were just collecting dust.
