Where is the store in Sarasota at anyway? I'll stop in next time I'm down. We're in Mount Dora right in the middle of the state between Ocala and Orlando. People are getting crazy up here too, gas lines everywhere, stations empty. I saw a guy in his mini van yesterday filling up 8 five gallon fuel cans... I mean, maybe he was buying fuel for all his neighbors on his street, but I'm inclined to believe the panic has taken hold.
WERD. In the 60s when they used to fly into the storm eye to guess the storm track, they gave notice, we filled up the one car, filled the bath with fresh water, boarded the windows, and waited to ride it out. 40 gallons of gas wouldn't do any good. Odds were that you wouldn't need it to get to work or school since they would be closed anyway.
Hey Pat. I’m in south Sarasota County down in Venice Quick Draw Quality Pawn 201 US Hwy 41 Bypass S Venice 34285 Swing by any time.
Looks to be a bit south hit this morning but still early to know for sure. Good for me bad for them. Got my gas loud ass generator, Booze and a window shaker in case power out for extended time. After about the 4th or 5th day it gets old without AC but I bought a crappy one just for the master BR so I'm ready (well relatively speaking).. Good luck one and all in FL, we know the routine but be safe!
Damn. Projected to be a 4 now.......and I'm right smack dab in the middle of that North side of the eyewall. Still early, but I guess I'll be doing a bit more prepping than I thought.
I hope the guy that recently bought an RV elected not to sell his standalone generator. IIRC, he resides in FL.
The always fun to view National Data Buoy Center reports from buoys closest to the storm. They really put the size in perspective in that the winds don't reach out nearly as far as people think. https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/radial_search.php?storm=at5
I'm in Wesley Chapel just north of Tampa. Looks like the new camper will be my home on the East coast for a while following the storm though as there will probably be plenty of claims that need handling.
Grocery stores are often a lost cause around this time. Best bet is stores you wouldn't anticipate, like Dicks Sporting Goods, Bass Pro Shops, etc.
